Tonight is pretty much the last night in NY with a low of 55, high of 67 daytime. This is pretty much my last chance to go out and fish before we get a cold front and rain coming through later this week. I've never been night fishing before. Do you guys think It's worth it to fish for a few hours in a large pond 7-9ish at night?

of course you can, one thing to mention is that you has 2 or 3 days left, the water does not get cold right away it takes a few days of cold weather. so theres a 2 or 3 days of a window.

The summer period tends to be the most productive, although we don't have a bug issue where I fish!

Night fishing will improve your skills. Make sure you have a good light, difficult to see what you are doing or going. Hard to beat a T-rigged Power worm or buzz bait, KISS, rules the night.

Enjoy yourself, take a cell phone, be careful.

Tom

PS; get there an hour before dark, the bite is usually good until an hour after dark, then slows down before it picks up agian.

Thanks for the tips guys, WRB your posts are always so informative going above and beyond any answer I could expect! You are indeed knowledgeable and wise. Now that I have the ass kissing out of the way....I look forward to catching some bass tonight and weighing them with my new scale!

Night fishing has really has become my favorite time to fish when the weather is hot. This time of year it is a little more unpredictable, but by all means GO!

As always WRB gives good advice. Simple is better when it comes to fishing after dark. I like to have a bunch of combos on deck during the day, at night one or two and make sure EVERYTHING is strapped down and in its place. If you go by yourself wear a PFD. I wear an inflatable at all times at night whether I'm alone or not.

A dark colored single colorado blade spinnerbait (slow rolled or bounced on bottom like a jig) or a dark colored jig and craw are two of my favorite nighttime baits. A spook can be deadly at times. There is nothing like a good fishing crushing a topwater bait at night. If that does not get you excited go immediately to the nearest hospital...

You got to take advantage of your "last night" that PB could be lurking at night

I start night fishing in April & continue until October.

#1 thing to remember, bass do not morph into a new creature after sunset. I the same locations with the same lures as I do during the day.

When I lived near Rochester, NY I fished Gravel Ponds (south of the city) a few times at night. Only once did I have success, caught an absolute beast of a bass -- 23" on a jitterbug -- at night. So yeah, if you can fish at night, it's worth the effort if for nothing else than to try it out.

Down here in VA, I have to be off the local waters I fish at sundown (or thereabouts), so no night fishing. I'd love to hit these spots at night, though. Jitterbugs, other top waters would surely elicit some strikes.

Thank you all for the kind words. Catt is the best source for night bass fishing tips...Liston to his advice, I do!

I believe the ? Was regarding a small 7 acre pond, more than likely fishing from shore. We have a lot of night fishing advice on this site with lists of needed details.

Just got back home a few minutes ago. The fishing was very sloooooooow. I started out with a swim bait that wasn't getting hit so I switched to a spook. I was out there for around 3 hours and caught 2 LM bass, 3.14lb and a 2.64lb. I would've loved to try plastics but I forgot those on the way out. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Frogs work really well especially in areas with a lot of frogs. Throw theme along the shore line and the bass will crush them, that's how it is here in FL anyway.

Last night I went to pick up food around 8:45p stopped at a spot and threw a white frog 5 yards in front of a culvert. Reel it in and a 20" slammed it as the frog got to the opening. The big girls love frogs lol

That doesn't sound like a bad way of spending a few hours to me. When you get old like me just being there is much of the fun-catching fish is a bonus! Well done.

I love night fishing and actually prefer it during the summer months. It takes some getting used to but it can be super effective. Having the whole lake to yourself and not feeling like you're melting while you're catching way more fish than you would during the daylight makes it all worth it :) I agree that you should keep it simple at night. I like dark colored baits most of the time but sometimes bright baits will work better. Chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, 10" worms, and jigs are my favorites.

Yep. Been there done that many times! It's a little too cool for me this time of year though.
