eatlessfish Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I currently use Berkley Vanish for all my fluorocarbon applications, which is almost everything other than frogging/flipping(braid), and topwater poppers/spooks/etc.(mono). I use it in 10lb. for cranks, 14lb for general, and 17lb. for jigs, small swimbaits, squarebills, etc. I hear lots of terrible reviews, but i havent had any problems. What I was wondering is should I switch brands to Seaguar Red Label, Sunline, etc. I think theyre over priced unless they are signifigantly better. Comment what you guys think. Stay or switch. And if you say switch, what brand would you suggest? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 red label is far from over priced. it's very cheap for 12$ a spool. with fluorocarbon lines, you get what you pay for. i personally wouldn't use vanish if it were given to me in a lifetime supply quantity. If you are happy with it, then there is no reason to switch. I prefer Seaguar Tatsu and Sunline FC Sniper for just about every application that I can use fluorocarbon. 1 Quote

Me too, Tatsu and Sniper are the best fluoro's I've used. If you want a cheaper option, check out Sunline Super. It's right around $15 a box and is the best cheaper fluoro I've used. I also agree that Vanish is terrible, not worth the money at any price. Quote
eatlessfish Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 I miswrote!! I was considering Red Label! But I dont want to pay to much for another brand or line that is overpriced!! I might have to try out some Seaguar Red Label. Quote
kschultz76 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I prefer Seaguar Tatsu and Sunline FC Sniper for just about every application that I can use fluorocarbon. I've been trying both of these after initial difficulty with other brands. I'm using 15 lb in the Tatsu and 16 in the Sniper. Pleased with both so far, way more manageable the other brands I've tried in 15lb. I still have some Invisix in 8 lb on a spinning reel that's working well. I've also learned that folks here were right about KVD L&L, definitely improves line handling of fluro. Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 seaguar makes the best fluorocarbon line, red label is a good choice, look it up on ebay maybe you get it for cheap Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 ^^^ that's your opinion. I tried it based on what everyone said and hated it. Tried P line too with the same result. I've had good success with the bps brand,Berkley 100% FC, and sunline sniper which is what I stuck with. 12-20# is all very manageable. Quote
eatlessfish Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks guys I'm picking up some Red Label this weekend to try. Ill compare it to Vanish since I'm not having problems unlike you guys. If I like it more I will start using it. Thanks guys for all the fast and reliable responses!! 2 Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 if you do get red label, get some line conditioner for it. it isn't a terrible line but it has very poor abrasion resistance. do yourself a favor and just spend the 22$ on sunline FC sniper. 1 Quote
Gaerith Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I have 10 lb seaguar red label -I only use it for leader material. I feel like it is too stiff and tends to have more knot breakage than it should. I use yo zuri on my reel that doesn't have braid and I like it a lot more. Technically it's a copoly, but it's what I would recommend and will end up getting again. It has great strength and isn't as stiff as red label, plus it's cheaper. Both have KVD line conditioner applied to them. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 I use Red label exclusively. But just as leader material, as I have braid as mainline on every reel I own. I have had zero issues with it, and I guess I have caught a fish or two. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 I fished Sunline Shooter since the mid 90's and tried various other brands over the years, nothing has compared until this year. Blackwater Toray FC, Solaroam Bass Hi Clas is a better line IMO; knot strength, abrasion resistance and ease of casting Tom Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 21, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 21, 2013 I rotate between Seaguar Red Label, Vicious, and Sunline Super. I have pretty recently started fishing the Sunline Super and have been really impressed with how easily it handles and it's strength and abrasion resistance. Vicious is some of the toughest stuff I've ever fished but if you aren't willing to deal with some line memory it isn't for you. Red Label is a great line too but the Sunline seems to do a little better around the zebra mussels that are in so many of our lakes now. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 I wouldn't dump it quite yet. Best thing to do would buy the best line you can afford or justify. Simply put one or a few other floro lines up against vanish for a month or two and see if you can feel the difference. Some guys still use mono for about everything and are very successful. Personally I really only use seagar and sunline for 95% of my floro needs. Sniper and invisix on the mid range level are nice step ups to the $10-$15 budget floro options. Shooter and tatsu are great lines but the price jump is a bit steep for most. Quote
theflyingbassfisherman Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I fished Vanish for a good while and recently went to PLine's copolymer, flouroclear. It's about 10 bucks for a 300 yard spool and amazon and tackle warehouse have good bulk deals on it. It handles better than the vanish did, I was having cast issues with the 17lb vanish. They only thing I have it on now is twelve pound on my crankbait rod. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 I use Seaguar InvizX exclusively. Red label for leader material. If price is an issue then I would stick with Red Label over any others. 1 Quote

Seaguar Red Label?? Dude, you using something doesn't make it the best. when i said the rolex and rolls royce of fluorocarbon line i referring to the seaguar brand, not the red label, if you dont like it them its just preference, but you cant say that its a bad line just because user error. like i said before, its the inventor of fluoro and its the only company that make there own fluoro line in their own factory. I look for only the best products out there, and only the best. Quote
rangerjockey Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Doesn't Toray manufacture they're own line ? Could be wrong but I thought sunline did as well. Quote
LMB ANGLER Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Doesn't Toray manufacture they're own line ? Could be wrong but I thought sunline did as well. nope, they rely on other resources to make their f/c line, kind of like a middle man. seaguar its the only manufacture that makes their own from factory. you can google it if you want. im speaking facts here Quote
rangerjockey Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Yep, Toray's website says it's a manufacturer...actually it's blackwaters site. No biggie, I do like the Tatsu a lot but other than that all sunline sniper. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 Sunline manufactures their line as well. Seaguar didn't "invent" fluorocarbon, they do make some decent lines and 1 really good one though. Quote
