It seems like on a daily basis I see the same questions being asked over and over again. I understand we are here to help each other out. I've learned some things myself and hope that I've at least helped one person out. It just gets irritating to me to constantly see questions that you could of answered easily by doing a search or looking on the next few pages. Ok I'm done ranting now.

I agree, sometimes it takes more to type it out and ask than it would have to search for it.

It is the nature of the beast. I belong to a few other forums and they are all the same. Take what you want, help when you want, howl at the moon when you want, and leave the rest!

I agree 100%, having been heavily into forums for almost 14 years. I've tried searches a few times and more often than not they did not provide the information I was looking for. Also, I think without repeats there'd be considerably less traffic on any given forum.

See my experience is totally different. I've been a member of a car forum for about 13-14yrs. Basically anything I've ever needed to find out was learned by searching on there or google. I agree with the traffic part though.

It's irritating yes, but at the same everyone of us has done the same thing, myself included. It is a discussion forum after all.

Also this search feature on this forum is even more irritating. Any time you hit the browser back button, it deletes your search. Plus if your on a phone, searching is even more difficult.

If all anyone had to do was come here and search instead of ask questions it would just be a bunch of guys showing off pictures of the fish they'd caught.

True the same questions are asked over and over and the same people do most of the responding.  Not that there isn't good information, but forums are gathering places, not much different than AOL chatrooms used to be.  If I slept a normal 8 hours I'd be here a whole lot less, I'm up at midnight, it gives me something to do before I go fishing at 4 am.  I pretty much can find what on I'm looking for on the internet, but the feeling isn't the same as belonging to a forum.

I just want you all to know that I fully appreciate everyone's opinions and feedback with regard to this issue!  I certainly get a lot out of "belonging" to a place where there are likeminded individuals with similar interests.  Thanks so much guys!!!  Have a wonderful day!!!

I bet a lot of people don't know about the search feature and figure it's much easier to make a post.

this is one of those things where it bothers me or it doesnt based on one criteria. If its a repeat topic of something older then it doesnt bother me. but if i see two threads that are 3 posts apart with the same topic then it gets irritating, i feel like the mods should merge those threads into one. like ive seen 3-4 posts on the first page of the rod forum asking what a good drop shot rod is.

I really don't mind the repeat posts so much. Generally, the information being sought is pretty basic stuff to us long-time fishermen, but to someone new to bass fishing, it's a genuine need to know. We've all been there. Plus, getting a personal response to a question goes a long ways toward making a newbie feel welcome and more like they belong here.

Just my $.02.

I disagree Red Earth.  Everyone is entitled to start a topic whether there is a similar one going or not.  It really isn't about repetitive information but more about the rights of being a forum member.  I'm not in favor of moderator doing anything to alter a thread, post, or closing one down because THEY feel the topic has been covered.  Some members may only come on once in while, they have the same right to voice their opinion as any of the more active members.  A moderator in my opinion should only be heard from when a rules violation has occurred.

I don't see the problem.  This whole thread is sort of like, if you don't like the channel on TV, change the channel.

If you don't like reading a repeat thread (that was important enough to someone, to post it) don't read it and stop ranting.

I agree with that message.

OK, I can understand your frustration at the same query popping up a few times or some offshoot of the original question but there is a reason.

No, they guys are not lazy or do not know how to use the search engine.

What you are seeing are questions that pop into an individual's mind and he/she just wants to post it and look for some replies. Never does one think of using a search engine to find parallel answers. The main goal is to post the issue and read the responses to satisfy one's curiosity.

This time of year we will see a number of jig questions from different members. You can cut and paste your answer to the first one in a post of a second or third one and everyone will think you are a genius for such a bright and insightful answer.  The individual looking for the answer is happy; you are happy; the guys on the Forum are happy; the bass are happy; and most of all the Bait Monkey is happy as you will now have to go out and find that "special jig or pig" to have better fishing results.

It is just part of the game.

When you come to a forum to read and gather new information it's annoying to see the same questions over and over about everyday. If a topic even has a similar title I don't click on it. I guess I look at things differently. To me it's that some people are too lazy and would rather be spoon fed information that is easily answered by going back a few pages or searching. I guess because the auto forum I've belonged to for probably 13yrs or so isn't like that at all. I guess that's the difference between fishing and cars. They'd rather feel a little accomplishment by putting in a little search time to get the answer. Oh well life goes on.

If someone is asking about the best flipping stick for around say 300 dollars. That doesnt help the guy or gal with a hundred dollar budget. Just like asking about the best way to fish a crankbait and what color to use in a murky weedy Alabama lake. Is gonna be different then the best way to fish said lure and color selection in a clear New York pond with hardly any weeds. Fishing patterns change with the seasons, weather, and even by the day. As do the yearly roll out of new and different gear. In a way it makes some of the past threads obsolete.

If members want to answer the questions being asked. Then where is the problem? People grasp knowledge in different ways. Sometimes the question being answered is answered completely differently, when the question is phrased a different way. It doesnt make that person lazy for seeking knowledge. I would rather have a conversation with someone on the current trends then read about the same topic from two years ago. A lot of things change with fishing. Cars? Not to the same extreme. Also could be someone new on here that has a better answer then what was given last year, or even last week.

That's what's its all about right there. Irratating sometimes but totally worth it

Yea, between work and seeing the same questions, I don't post nearly as much as I used too. But helping these new peeps and sharing information with seasoned veterans is what its all about.
