Super User bigbill Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 Every so often I get a wrong number from a bill collector threatening me. Today I answered the call and tried to tell the lady it's not me there looking for. She said how do I know it's not me. It's not my name nor am I the person your looking for. Don't you ever wish you could reach thru the phone and give them a "DA" rap on the forehead? This is why I hate phones. Then I get calls for buying or looking for donations. When they ask for my son I tell them he's working. Then they push my button and ask me if I want to give. They hang us so fast when I ask then for a donation to my fund, I'm disabled. I give to the local vets and the salvation army. Quote
Super User MCS Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 LOL Similar situation...When we moved to FL we got new phone numbers when we got a new car we got yr of free satalite radio. Well apparently Steve had the same phone number and also had satalite radio. We Steve hasn't paid his bill in a really long time. So xm/sirius use phone numbers to baisically keep track of accounts. We start getting emails, I call explain, give both account numbers they see two different emails, names, addresses, oh but same phone number. Told we will look into it, it will be fixed. NOT only are we still getting Steve's emails but we are now getting Steve's phone calls. And I answered my wifes phone one day and got the same thing..."yeah right sure your not Steve ".....Who is Steve please stop calling me. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 Ive been getting them for awhile now. Looking for DaNisha. One guy refused to believe me thst I wasn't DaNisha. Said he was gonna come take my car. I told him drive on down to Bama and we can have a boot party. He started his tough guy routine and I told him some associates of mine would be waiting with a blow torch and two pipe wrenches for him. He back tracked real quick after that. Decided I didn't sound like a girl and wished me a good day. The last time they called a month ago I informed them DaNisha was in a horrible accident with an 18 wheeler and decapitated. I even kind of sniffled when I told them. They were so apologetic and kind to me when I told them that sob story. Havent heard a word out of them since. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 I know a lot about this, that was actually my first job many moons ago. The laws were totally different, the phone was fair game to do whatever. Not the case now, laws prohibit any harassment from a collection agency for any reason, you have legal recourse. Not worth the time and expense but I'd start by reporting them to the phone company, they will deal with it. Fund raisers are exempt they can call and ask, most calls come from a fund raising company where little money is actually donated. I have a number of ways I get rid of them, from hanging up to keeping them on the phone a long time so they can't call as many people. I used to love messing with the boiler room callers having the next great investment, that's against the law now to solicit, in Florida it's an $11,000. fine for each offense. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 I always give them to my 7 year old! They usually never call back. I had one call about 4 months ago from a repo company trying to repo a 2013 Cadallic SUV of some type. I told them they had the wrong person. Dude got really rude and I hung up. 3 days later a women and some thug looking guy shows up demanding to look into the garage. Note that I drive an 04 ford pick up that's been paid off for 4 years lol. Next thought was a through credit check all around to see if someone used my stuff. It was all clear. How in the world do they get things so mixed up? 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 Ask them in a calm voice about their sex life 3 Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 I really enjoying messing with them, most companies have a policy that the operator cannot hangup on u. Like Sam and Raider have alluded its a perfect chance to mess with them. I'm retired so if I'm not doing anything I'll take a few minutes of their precious time. I've said everything from the person died some horrific death to the person they're looking is a deadbeat who left my sister with four kids and ask them of they find the person tocall me back. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 I've had that happen several times all from the cell phone, they leave a message and I'd call back saying I'm not 'insert guys name here' he was the last guy with the number, they'd leave a message and I called back and told them wrong number no 'insert guys name here' and never got another call from them. I guess what helped them believe me was they guys name was completely spanish and I didn't sound anything like it. No information given at all. 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 19, 2013 Super User Posted October 19, 2013 Ask them in a calm voice about their sex life I have done this before.... its great, the most silence you were hear on a phone call.. asking I give em all hell when they call me its amussing.. I have had the same people call me for about 4 years now asking for some lady... The best was when I was sick and I went along with it for a while I guess I can do a good ol' lady voice... the bill collector asked me a question and I said, yeah I just started my dogs canned gravy on my mash potatoes. It goes down a lot better than real gravy.. plus its easy to cook. she asked me how does it taste lmao 1 Quote
lanzbass Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Maybe one solution ?... Buy a football whistle and let it rip... word will get around quick to not call your number... 1 Quote
RAMBLER Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I just saw a good one on another site. Whisper to them, "It's taken care of, but there's blood everywhere". Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 20, 2013 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 20, 2013 We have a similar problem, but not with misguided bill collectors, it's with job recruiters. Evidently, "Phyllis" and "Julio" added their names in some kind of nursing job database about a decade ago....and then we acquired their phone number when we moved in 2006. We're constantly getting calls for them about job opportunities. We used to ask people to remove their names from their database, but that didn't work. Now we're telling people they're dead, however that doesn't seem to be working either. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted October 21, 2013 Super User Posted October 21, 2013 My problem wasn't bill collectors mine was realators and prospective buyers!!! THIS d**n WOMAN TAMMY ROBINSON must have given out business cards with the wrong number lol. I would get numerous calls asking for her to the point I started my voice mail as this is not Tammy Robinson I don't sell houses... Then my greeting lol. Seemed like it would never stop, wasn't like I was getting a bunch of calls a day but still, so I changed my cell phone number Quote

Super User Root beer Posted October 23, 2013 Super User Posted October 23, 2013 Unrelated, somewhat, but when I used to get telemarketer's calls I would answer the phone saying buster's sperm bank, you spank it we bank it. It was a 100% effective, the shock factor that is. 2 Quote
RAMBLER Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 There was a woman that kept calling me, on the same subject, even after I had told her to put me on the no call list. One day, I had had all I wanted to hear. I told her, "I think prostitution is a far more honorable profession than telemarketing". She hung up and never called again. I wonder if she changed profession! 1 Quote
