Need Help With New Tube / Soft Plastics Rod

also the avid 6'8" m/xf is exactly the mojo bass model i use currently, how much better is the avids sensitivity and performance than the mojo bass?

I have both. I can tell you the mojo is a great rod, but nothing compared to the Avid. The Avid's balance point is different and has none of the tip heaviness that the mojo has. The Avid has a better blank and better guides.

Next to a Cumara and GLX, I would say the Avid would be the lesser of the rods. Not by a huge amount though. Keep in mind, the Avids price point is 190 where as the Cumara is 250 and the GLX is around 400 bucks. 3 completely different worlds here.

In my example, I was talking about the CUSX68M....the Gen 1 cumara. Those were roughly $230 retail at one point. Is your comparison in regards to the new model Cumara's, or the Gen 1's? Interested to see how this comparison shakes out.

You won't be disappointed, Avid is a great rod.  My only Avid left is a 6'6" M/F and it is by far my favorite jerk bait, top water and bladed bait rod.  I never owned the XF version, I'm sure it will be a good plastics rod as the Avid is good sensitivity.

I've got the same rod coming any day now. Its going to be my jerkbait rod as well.

Yeah definitely my favorite rod for it, not sure what it is..it just feels natural and the length and power/action just seems perfect for it.

the only reason I asked is I noticed within their Mojo Bass line, their "tubes n grubs" rod is the 7'0'' M/F so I was just wondering if this would be the better setup for the application. will be making the purchase soon

Either will work. Look at the descriptions on St Croix's website for the LTB series, the Avids will fish very similarly. I have a 6'6" M/F Avid and a 6'8" M/XF Xtreme. I like them both but prefer the M/XF for lighter plastics, loads and casts beautifully, accurately, and easy to impart subtle movement.

I have an avid 68mxf and I use it for weightless senkos, flukes, and I've used with with 1/8 oz jig head and tube. It's a great rod, very sensitive and casts these light baits very easily.

I currently own a 6'8'' medium/xf mojo bass "wacky style" rod so I think I will get the Avid 7'0'' medium/fast for use with stuff 1/4-5/8 and keep using the mojo bass rod for weightless and close to weightless stuff ie 1/8, it does load pretty well casting such weights even though its under its rating.  is that smart or no lol

 

Also, as kschultz76 suggested, I took a gander at the LTB rods and within that series the ideal rod would be the 7'1'' medium / fast, it is identical in specs to the Avid i am considering except it is just 1 inch shorter.

Since you've already got that taper in the Mojo then I'd agree you should go for the M/F in the Avid to add that versatility. Before I got the Xtreme on close out when St Croix redesigned them I used the Avid for everything. Just fished the Avid a bit more heavily then usual because I loaned the Xteme to my Dad. The sensitivity in the Avid once again blew me away when compared to my Xtreme considering the price difference.

im sure the avid with be much more sensitive and i hope better balanced than my mojo. I want to use the avid for tubes as i said and also i haven't even done any texas rigging with weights, also shakey heads i would like to try
