Am going to be purchasing a new spinning rod, will be using it for tubes, soft plastics, etc

The rod im thinking of purchasing is a Dobyns Savvy SS 702SF

I have been using a mojo bass rod, looking for an upgrade. What is everyones thoughts on this rod for me?

Will also be upgrading my reel if anyone has recommentations

i love dobyns rods but there are a whole heck of a lot of better options in that price range that have better sensitivity,

I dont mind the mojo bass but i feel it has low sensitivity personally and my medium seems pretty stiff, as i read more reviews many dislike the savvy series. i also dislike how my mojo was made in mexico lol

maybe i should look closer at an avid.. or spend a bit more and get a gloomis or something hm

i like the savvy..for frog and spinnerbaits/swim jigs and thats about it. anything else i'd go champ extreme. in your price range there's phenix m1/recond 2, powel endurance (during black friday sales), kistler KLX (supposed to be a fantastic value for its price tag), and st. croix avid. i'd choose any of those rods before the savvy for bottom contact baits.

I suggested the 6'8" M/XF. I think the model is avs68mxf. I have that taper in the Xtreme it's excellent for plastics like weightless Senkos, other finesse presentations. I've not used it for tubes but should handle them very well. You could also go with a 6'6" or 7' M/F.

I have the 6'9" Avid ML XF. It is a great rod and a very good drop shot rod. Though it has served some double duty for soft plastics, I much prefer a MF or MXF for those applications. If I were you, I'd consider the Avid in the 6'8" MXF.

Check out the Fenwick Aetos line, I own the M/F 7'.  very versatile stick and can be used for all of what you are asking.  Plus they feel better imo than the Savvy and is a very sensitive rod.  I'd compare them to at least a 200+ rod.

if your looking to spend about the same price as a savvy, i would get a shimano crucial. there pretty dang sensitive and light weight. balance is ok, a tad bit tip heavy but not bad. but thats about the best rod you can get for $160

I agree. I don't think for the 160 mark (new) your going to find a better built more sensitive rod. I'm not a fan of the grip, but it has got to be the most durable thing I've ever fished next to an ugly stick. The fully exposed reel seat and braid will bring out the most in sensitivity in it. I got the XF and its just a tad much for me. I think the fast would be better suited for bottom contact baits.

I'll third the motion for a Crucial if you want to try a different rod brand.  However, I still prefer my Aetos over the Crucial.  Reason being it balances better, fishes better and a tad more sensitive.  I own 2 Crucials though, not knocking them I like them too.  Just think in that price range the Aetos is a winner in my book.

Discussed this option with many with well informed individuals. With the #1 factor being performance, what I was told was that AVS68MXF < CUSX68M < GLXBSR852 & GLX 852s

This is not first hand information.

Notes on the 702sf. If it is anything like the Dobyns Extreme version as far as power, it will be a little whimpy for the job. The 742sf seems to be the choice for said applications.

are you saying the avid is lesser than those rods mentioned?

also the avid 6'8" m/xf is exactly the mojo bass model i use currently, how much better is the avids sensitivity and performance than the mojo bass?

Remember, I have not personally fished these rods. It is just a question that I have researched and was told by someone who I highly trust who owns/has owned every rod I mentioned. I was told it was very close between the avid and cumara, the cumara being slightly faster and slightly more sensitive.

From a personal experience, just handling the rods, I would imagine there is a significant increase in performance going from a mojo to an avid. Haven't fished them, so pure speculation. I want to make that clear. There are many co-owners of avids and mojos on this site who can shed light on that much better.
