Jon G Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 A long time ago i was going to buy a veritas but i heard they snap easy and the guides break so i saved my money and got a duckett. But has anybody had a veritas snap on them or guides break off? Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hah! Get ready for the replies. The last one I had say in dotage for about 8 months. My duckett broke so I put a reel on it and went fishing. Within the first couple of bass on a jig, a guide broke. Te guides were all misaligned and offset. They're good rods if you are on a long road trip and forgot one of your rods and need another one fast to pick one up at basspro. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 17, 2013 Super User Posted October 17, 2013 I have a friend that over one season broke 3 veritas rods. It could be user error but he has used other brands with zero issues. His experience deterred me from buying one myself. Quote
kylek Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I have 4 of them that have been used for over a year now. I haven't had any problems at all with mine. Quote
5fishlimit Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I've abused mine for 2 years. No issues whatsoever. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I have 3 I've used for about a year and have zero issues. Great rod at a great price. Quote
Diggy Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I have 3, no problems, one is going 2 years strong almost (micro), one 6'9 micro and one 7ft11 flipping. Im pretty careful with my gear and I dont hookset excessively hard. I have had friends break guides off the micro rods, but I know one has broken rods of various brands (rough on gear) The other, I cant say how he broke the guide, but I do notice the 2nd guide from the bottom is the one that seems the most suspect, even on the replacement rod. Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 17, 2013 Super User Posted October 17, 2013 yea.... great rod for the money i have 2 as of now... Quote
Grantman83 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Friend snapped a spinning rod on a dink...blew up below the first guide. Customer service was top notch. Not only did they call back up ASAP...they let him upgrade from a medium to a medium heavy with no problem. 3 days later he had his new rod. I made a thread about it. Quote
JeziHogg Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 When they first released them the Veritas where all really fragile - Apparently they've fixed that problem. That being said, the ceramic (I think its ceramic) ring inside the tip top fell off of 3 of my Veritas rods, got them all replaced and now my kids use them. From what I've gathered about Abu (from the Veritas and the new Revo 3's I've owned) their quality control and just general craftsmanship is garbage. I've gone to BPS and Sail retail stores and I've looked down the rod through the guides and I can safely say 6 out of 10 rods don't line up straight. Sure they're warranty is absolutely amazing but who wants to go through that hassle if you really don't have too. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 I lost an insert in the tiptop on one but I think they compete with rods way over their price point! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 broke two while setting the hook between the tip top and the next guide. Both were covered under warranty and the third one i sold to a buddy and he has had no issues with it. Quote
Arv Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I broke one which was my fault, but cs still worked with me. The replacement and my other rod where fine. Quote
Super User CWB Posted October 18, 2013 Super User Posted October 18, 2013 No matter how hard I've tried (I've yanked 2 pounders out of the water on hooksets, I have yet to damage one in any way. Just had a nice musky right up to the boat on my Winch and she took a nosedive straight down, bending the rod almost in half. Got her back up and in the boat (no net) with no harm to the rod. Check Ebay. $79.00 with free shipping. Best rod out there for that price IMHO. Quote
CTGalloway21 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 The original Veritas and Vendettas had issues with breaking. Those issues have been fixed based on what I heard. You will still have common breaks as you do with any rod. Quote
Hattrick7 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I have the 7' MH and have had mine for about six months now and never had an issue. I fish almost every day and during the summer months I would take it out saltwater fishing for calico bass almost weekly. Like CWB, I got mine on eBay for $79 no tax and free shipping. Great rod for the price. I find it to be extremely sensitive with plenty of backbone. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 19, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 19, 2013 Like any mass produced items there's going to be some of them that have defects. My buddy that works in the fishing department at Cabela's in KC told me they're one of the most commonly returned broken rod besides the Cabela's brand rods. A big part of that may be their popularity also because if they're selling a lot then there's more of them out there to be broken. I'm sure a lot of the broken rods are user error also. Quote
Lip 'em! Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 The reel seat broke on the first one i had while setting the hook. Maybe due to the freezing temperatures being hard on the plastic? But I called customer service and they replaced it after i sent them pics, even though i had lost my receipt. I have had the replacement now for a year and have had 0 issues out of it and have caught a ton of fish with it! Overall i am very satisfied for the price! The rod is extremely sensitive but be aware that these rods are under rated on power(my 7ftmh fishes like a heavy). Quote
