My youngest son got me into riding dirtbikes. I picked up a '79 husqvarna 390CR motocross bike with 45 rear wheel horsepower. My point is I lost 60# in three months chasing my son through the woods. You use every muscle when you ride dirtbikes. It's more fun than being in a gym. Just make sure you wear all the safety gear. There is no more of a rush than becoming one with a machine flying through the woods. I would do three laps non stop that was my workout 4 to 5 times a week. The score was bike 1 human 0. The bike was an awesome workout once you get the balance down.

When I stopped riding due to a job related knee injury I got fat again.

I say get a dirtbike and ride. Even a dual-sport bike on

the street will give you a workout using every muscle group. It's good exercise. It was great riding with my son too.

I disagree. There are few things more fun then being at the gym. I've never gotten an adrenaline rush riding a motorcycle or dirt bike like I have at the gym lifting.

I mean banging out that last set, your veins are bulged out, your muscles are begging to stop. Your buddy is getting you fired up, your brain is totally focused on getting that last set done. The bar is cold in your hands, sweat is pouring down your face, every last ounce of you is screaming to give up, but you ain't gonna let yourself down. Not now. You've come to far to quit. It would be so easy to rack the bar and call it a day. However that sick feeling will rise from your gut if you quit. That sick feeling that makes you want to vomit because you lied to yourself. You didn't give it your all. You just quit and gave up. So you knock out your five reps, and your lifting buddy screams "TO HELL WITH THE PAIN ONE MORE!!!" Now your adrenaline is fully pumping. The testosterone is pumping, its making your brain go into overdrive. The Lactic acid has built up and you are hurting but can't feel it anymore, because the adrenaline has blocked it out. Without missing a beat you throw the weight up and nail that last rep with a ROAR!!! Your mind goes hazy as you rack the bar. You have done it. You beat it. You won. You bang fist with your buddy and look at yourself in the mirror. Knowing you have just gave it your all, and then some.

That's the kind of rush you get lifting at the gym. If you ain't puking you ain't lifting hard enough.

I push myself on the first pass with the bike. I'm standing up. Leaning in turns, on the bars while climbing hills. On the rear going down hills, my point is our body never stops moving on the bike when were riding. It's a rush when she wheelers in sixth gear. The rear wheel never stops spinning, but it does for a few feet between shifting gears. I have never felt a rush like riding a bike. By the third pass my muscles did burn. The 250's never did for me what the 390's did.

Oh, I have no doubt it is a work out. If it works then by all means do it. I can definitely see the mechanics of ut now. What you are describing is definitely a full body workout. Sounds like a blast too. I just prefer the gym.

The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  A person 50 or 100# overweight probably will see quicker weight loss than someone needing to only lose 5 or 10#, the last pounds are the hardest.

The real key is to be aware when you're young, be active and stay fit, the chances of becoming porcine later in life will be greatly reduced.

Chalk that up to crossword puzzle expertise, not an abundance of intellect.

Porcine indeed!! At 345 twenty-one months ago I was definitely in that category.

I have tried many of the popular weight loss and fitness programs over the years. They all worked to some extent. This last time around I made the decision that I was going to lose the weight and get fit by changing my life style. That is the only way for me to maintain fitness and health. What I have learned over the years is when I swear off of foods that I love, it is only a matter of time before I go crazy and quit. So I had to figure out how to eat the occasional bowl of ice cream or cheeseburger (or two) and fries without using it as an excuse to go back to my old habits.

It has not been a completely smooth road, but I now weigh ~200 with more muscle than when I was a kid. I do resistance training at the gym or at home 3 or 4 times a week and at least 30 minutes of cardio just about every day. This gives me some license to eat like a fool from time to time. What I've found is even when I do, it is less stupid than it once was! For those of us who are "all or nothing" guys it takes some discipline, and trial and error to figure this out. I am not going to give any advice, but can tell you it is worth the effort.

As far as supplements I have found that by increasing my protein intake I am better able to build muscle and control my appetite, esp when it comes to empty calories from sugars. It is easier and cheaper to use a protein supplement than to get it all from natural foods. I don't think it is better-just easier.

As far as diet and exercise, the key is to find something you like, and can see yourself doing, forever. I am sure doing p90x will work, and you will lean up and lose weight, but how realistic is it to think you will do this as a long term health plan? Starving yourself and eating merely a waffle and a can of tuna to lose weight will work, but when is you r body and brain gonna say enough, and your gonna a freak out and gorge? Pick a sensible workout program, and a realistic diet of real foods, allow your self a treat or 2 during the week, possibly as a reward, and that will be a plan you can stick with forever.

Sounds like new school Taiboo or however it was spelled. I thinks I will stick with my calorie packed diet and weights. I will just leave the high intensity cardio workouts to all yall skinny and want to be skinny folks. I do plyometrics and that's about as far as it goes. I aint a navy seal and I'm not training for combat.

Ive been working out and eating healthy for longer than you have been alive.

P90x has a lot of weight training but you probably aren't going to get huge unless you really max out the weights.  I know when i do the plan i pretty much can't eat enough and still burn fat so it is all good to me.

I actually prefer P90X2 myself after doing them both.....they are both more geared towards athleticism than bulk though so depending on your goals you can adjust accordingly.

I probably shouldn't of posted on here this is a more casual lose weight deal... insanity and p90x is more than working out and eating a waffle and a can of tuna... that's where people go wrong... if your trying lose excessive weight a quick fix isn't going to work for the long term.goal.. for me losing weight is not the case, but one of these deffinelty is one of the best options for doing so.. its helps performace and endurance on the field for me and tons of other athletes at all levels.... I can't tell.you how many top d1 university's incorperate insanity to their off season workout plan... I've been to a few rookie camps where if they are serious about singing you they give you a physical fitness test other than running 60s and a gym routine workout. 2/5 have done insanity they call it 20 minutes of hell....

I dunno. I've never seen Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, or Branch Warren banging out high intensity cardio. I'm going for the freakishly jacked look. Sorta body builder or world's strongest man look.

Well in that case if you are getting ready for a show you can lose to much but if you bulking you can still do some cardio.. I know those guys work out up to about an hour a day of cardio 7 days a wekk sometimes doing 2 x a day 1 hour cardio sessions.. But its all about how much fat you need to lose to much cardio will burn just as much muscle as fat burned

Yeah, I had a girlfriend once, but she couldn't spot me, so what was the point?
