Hollisray Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 looking to buy a new reel for medium diving crankbaits wiggle warts mostly would a 6 4 1 be good for this? Quote
motodmast Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 mostly depends on depth and bill size. if they only go to about 14-15 feet, i use a 6.4:1 any deeper i use a 5.4:1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 16, 2013 Super User Posted October 16, 2013 Majority of my reels are in the 6.?:1 range. Older Daiwa is 5.8:1. I reel faster if necessary. Zillion 50th is just over 7:1. I reel slower if necessary. Some people have trouble slowing down. Some people feel having to reel fast is too tiring. Your reel should be perfect for mid-depth lures. Super User WRB Posted October 16, 2013 Super User Posted October 16, 2013 More than ratio's go into cranking power. Small to medium crankbaits can be fished effectively with nearly any quality bait basting reel! Tom 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Only the deepest running cranks really benefit from low ratio/IPT reels. The 6:1 should work fine for you. 1 Quote
