I used FishID feature of Lawrance Elite-4 today for the first time. When I turn this on, the sonar display changed a lot and lost the good view I used to have. :(

Anyhow, when fish icon showed up, it comes up with number next to it. It looks like from 1 to 10. Anyone knows what this is? The manual doesn't say anything. Horrible manual.

Most likely the number is the depth the fish/signal is at.

I don't think it was the depth, because the icon's vertical position reflects the depth. I didn't see anything bigger than 8 or 9. My guess is either the size of the fish, or the unit's confidence level that is actually fish.

Some units will put a number by the fish that indicates the depth of the mark along with the depth of the bottom. I've never heard of one that guessed the size of the fish (although you can sometimes get an idea from the size of the mark). You could probably contact Lowrance and get an explanation from them though.

Don't use the ID feature. Learn to interpret/deal with the arches. Even Lowrance will tell you that the ID feature is less reliable. Not sure what the numbers are that you are seeing. You might want to check out their home page for information on that.

The FishID is on right side of page 15 in your manual. The number above the symbol is the depth of the represented return. It may or may not be a fish.

Ok thanks. I didn't get the manual that you are referring to, as on mine it is page 20. Only thing it says is that fish ID indicates fish and warning it is not accurate.

I was not using it. I just turned this on yesterday cause I was just curios. After trying, I wasn't planning on using it because it messed up the regular sonar image. For example I wasn't able to see weeds well with it.

The manual is on the Lowrance web site.

Choose the unit model and then "Documents" on the right side of the panel and under that "Operation Manual".

I looked a the Elite-4 manual.

I looked it up again at another link and it came up for page 20 this time. Also the manual was for three models. It was just the Elite-4 the first time.    Strange !!!!
