Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 A few days ago my reel curado hasn't been casting as far as it did... I've been using it all summer and this is the fist time its acted up.. The settings are still all the same I've tried losing the tension knob and the tried alternating the breaks but that didn't help either. I used to be able to cast spooks and spinners for miles.....WHAT HAPPENED>.. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 It's impossible to diagnose for certain without seeing the reel. Since the issue came on suddenly, my guess would be contamination of some sort assuming you haven't changed rods, line etc. You can try popping the spool out and making sure the rim and frame are clean and maybe put a drop of oil on the bearings. Beyond that it's probably time for a deep cleaning. I can turn them around pretty quickly still, but the busy season is right around the corner. 1 Quote
basshole8190 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Dirt and junk build up in reel maybe? 1 Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 13, 2013 Super User Posted October 13, 2013 One quick thing to try is to check your bearings. It doesn't require breaking the reel down. See if they are spinning or dirty. The two bearings are (to my knowledge) the only resistance on the spool during a cast, next to the cast control knob. Flush them with break cleaner and soak them in acetone. Add a couple small drops of oil to them and see if that helps some. If that doesn't work, send it off to DVT or Pro Reel and let them have a looksee 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 13, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 13, 2013 well I cleaned and re-spooled it.. I haven't changed the line im using or the rod.. dropped a little on on the bearings.. im going out in alittle bit hopefully its fine!!! Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 13, 2013 Super User Posted October 13, 2013 One more thing comes to mind. Your line..... Have you been running a bait that produces lots of line twist like a spoon or weightless fluke? See if your line has a bunch of coil, more than you've seen in the past. I had the same happen with my fluke set up last year. 1 Quote
Boogey Man Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Try cleaning the break race then put a very small amount of oil back on it. 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 14, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 14, 2013 well the curado is my cranking, top water and spinner bait reel.. I cleaned the whole reel, put a few drops in, re-spooled.. and it works perfectly. I cleaned the reel last week I guess ive been fishing a lot.. also my spool was running low with line maybe that was another cause... Quote

I don't know how much it adds to distance and performance, but a full spool has ways given me better distance than a half full one. Quote
