Before getting the Hedgehogg Honeycomb micro spool for it (Color thing), What rod would be better for swimjigs (Mostly 1/2oz) I already own a St Croix TBC71MHXF or I'm thinking about getting a Cumara Spinnerbait Casting Rod 6'10" MHXF?

i am not a fan of an XF tip for swim jigs but if i had to pick one of the two it would be the longer st. croix

I can certainly appreciate the reasons for buying a micro spool but it doesn't seem very fitting to use with 1/2oz swim jigs.

My thoughts as well... Finesse spools are designed to cast finesse lures on light line. Slining half ounce swim jigs will certainly test the line capacity of the spool. It is also not optimized for the heavier weight, so although you will have little start-up inertia the inertia will not remain nearly as long during the cast, which could even inhibit casting performance. If the spool is of the honeycomb variety the manufacturer may also recommend NOT using PE, or braided, lines. This can cause deformation of such a delicate spool.

The honeycomb holds about 70m of 12lb mono (same diameter of 15lb floro) that's what I was planning to use. The main reason is just because I wanted to customize the reel to get rid of all the red and change it to blue.  You think I should be able to cast a 1/2 w/trailer atleast 30m with a stock core?

*Edit get rid of the red so it would match my St Croix

I'm sure the micro spool will work, just be careful with it.  I don't guess there is anything wrong with using it the way you plan, it just seems like a waste of an awesome finesse spool.  If that's not your thing though, go for it.   I know Avail makes some spools that aren't as shallow but I didn't see any in blue.

I'm casting a 3/8oz pointer on mine 35-40 yards on a medium fast rod. I'd say with the right rod to load the jig with, you should be able to get 40 plus on a bad day
