Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 I fish when I can. I work two jobs and am finishing a Masters Degree in addition to my family duties, but I suppose my break would be Winter because I live in New England and have no interest in ice fishing. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 Never, till I can't get out of the bed to go, till I'm completely burned out.But this year has been different with my cancer and the radiation treatments. I have an extended life now but I still have on and off side effects from the radiation. This is giving me time to clean and arrange my tackle boxes in order and to upgrade my rods and reels plus get into bait casting more. This down time has made me think more about life and what I'm going to do next. My bucket list as of now is to fish, fish and fish more, non stop in the springtime. I'm ordering more tackle so I'm not out of stock on anything. I have a few extra reels and rods. I hope to wear some out.The second thing on my bucket list is to hunt coyotes. I lost two of my cats to yotes. One I had all trained she was so smart. The first time she went outside I lost her. Im going to cash in on the pelts too. It's time to cut back on the population. They say here we lost this past generation of fawns here this year to the predators, we need to correct this. Soon it's payback time. Sounds like my neighborhood - though I'm on the ocean. I lost a cat years ago to Coyotes and had one in the street staring at me one night just recently. Unfortunately we have a no firearm discharge law in city limits where I'm at and my bow was in the closet upstairs. Best of luck with your recovery from Cancer. Both my parents had it within the last three years and are clean today. The Chemo & radiation slowed mom down for a while, but the long recovery was successful. Thanks greatly to Dana Farber.... 1 Quote

Missourifishin Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I'll get enough breaks when I'm forced to take them by the winter weather. 1 Quote
nascar2428 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 When the water freezes until opening day, which is usually the last week of April. 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 I have been gathering my ice fishing equipment I'm thinking the tractor with the snowblower can pull my ice fishing sled on the ice. I may even build me a grumpy old men hut? A little heat with some hot coffee or hot chocolate and some burgers/dogs could be the hot ticket. Ice fishing could be enjoyable. I could whip up a little Woodstove in a heart beat. It could make the cabin fever go away. The affordable insulated guide gear hunting camp clothes keeps me very warm. It's from sportsmans guide. I also bought more insulated camp gear from BPS ON Clearance too. I have a one piece insulated suit that's good for 40 below. I never got to use my really warm stuff because the past few hunting seasons have been warm. The 1,000gram thinsulate boots are awesome too. My feet are toasty warm even on the ice without heat snap packs. Ice fishing sounds like a good idea. My first time ice fishing we had 24" of ice in two weeks. My two body builder son's used my Swedish hand operated ice drill. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 My only time off is when I am waiting for safe ice to form in the winter, and waiting for the unsafe ice to melt in the spring. I usually ice fish once a week, during the winter. As for bass fishing, I usually fish 3 nights a week after work, and one full day on the weekend. If it's been raining a lot and too wet to work, or were slow at work between crop seasons, I go fishing, sometimes it's 2-3 days in a row IN ADDITION to my usual time on the water. This time of year is when I usually have the longest time between days on the water. It's getting too dark too early to go after work anymore, and were busy with our fall work on the farm, so unless it's raining and/or too wet from the rain, I usually only get out on sunday. I average about 125-130 trips to the water a season (late march/early april - mid/late nov.) So I get out plenty. About the only thing I do besides fish, is work, and spend time with my kids. 1 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 I never take a self induced break. I fish 7 days a week and only miss once in a while if there is an emergency or commitment, like my house flooding recently. Even though I have to be home by 8 am when the workmen come, I fish early. In the winter I fish even more, still doing the ocean every morning that's when I get serious about bass fishing in the afternoons. I bet I haven't gone 7 or 8 days without fishing this year. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 Longest break because I just didn't feel like fishing was about 8 years. Longest break because of the weather has been about 3-1/2 months. 1 Quote
Bass Junkie Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 I only take a break when that white powdery stuff inhibits my fishing. This spring I was throwing a jerkbait with ice forming on my guides and line guide, and I plan to do the same this winter. Due to the odd weather we've had around here in the last couple years I've had some very interesting opportunities, such as fishing a pond on New Years. 1 Quote
jignfule Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Fishing IS my break. I will NEVER take a break from my BREAK.. Ask my wife.. she tries to force me.. yep Quote
speed craw Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 My break was my wife having us move 15 min further away that way I can't stop by the lake on the way home . 1 Quote

Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 17, 2013 Super User Posted October 17, 2013 In the spring I don't have much time but in the summer most of my mornings are free so I don't a lot of fishing then... in the fall I fish when im not in school or training... 1 Quote
KritterGitter Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I work a 4on-4off schedule 8am-8pm, so on those days thats my break. Other than thats at least a couple hours everyday on my weekend. If i get swapped to nights for a week or two, 8pm-8am, I still manage to make it for the morning bite... 1 Quote

SudburyBasser Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I stopped fishing for about ten years after most of my regular partners got married or lost interest. A couple of years ago I started back up with a vengeance and am certainly making up for lost time. This year I even participated in a tournament series and did very well. Unfortunately winter is coming up here and today may have been my last trip for this year. Bass closes end of November and doesn't open again until June. Sigh. 1 Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted October 20, 2013 Super User Posted October 20, 2013 Today, was my last fishing trip till April 2014. I wish I lived in the south, instead of Central Pa. Oh well maybe someday. 2 Quote
wademaster1 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Isn't the 40+-hours a week I spend at the dungeon far too much of a break? Anything more than that would be plain unfathomable..... 1 Quote
hookset on 3 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 We share the same weather my friend...lol. I'm with Iowa and Aceman on the Winter break. In season, I NEED to fish every day! I think I missed maybe 7 or 8 days since April. I'm divorced since 2000 and I'm trying to make up time from when I had the ball and chain wrapped around my finger...er leg! 1 Quote
