I can never seem to figure out how to tell the difference (even though I've researched it).

 

Don't remember what the tongue was like unfortunately

One can pretty much tell 100 percent of the time if it is a spot by the lateral stripe and if the mouth comes back behind the eye.  Rarely do you have to look for the toothy patch on the tongue. 

 

That would have been a very nice spot.  :smiley:

That would have been a dandy spotted bass!  That's a good looking fish either way!  Where are you fishing at since you don't have the location in your profile?

The best way to tell a spot is  if it has a rough toungue. That will tell you for sure.

Thanks guys. I never would have thought anything about it, but somebody saw the pic and said it could have been a spotted bass. As I said, I had no idea how to tell the difference at the time so I figured I'd ask.
