Boo Rig For Throwing Into Schooling Baitfish

So, I went to my local bait shop today and he was unloading these.  I'd seen them before on youtube 

 

Thought they looked pretty good.  So, I picked one up.  I'm gonna pair it with Super Fluke Jr.s and a 1/0 EWG hook.  I suppose you could put them on a swimbait head, but I don't like exposed hooks that much.  I'll try them on some cranks too.

 

 

Perfect timing too.  I'd been seeing fish hit and couldn't get anything to bite under the schooling shad.  I'll try this out maybe it'll work.

Personally, I don't like ANY of these rigs with a weedless hook.  I use the Buckeye J-Will jig head, and it requires no hookset, just let the rod load and hang on.

yeah, I've been using big hammer heads with my other rigs lots, they get hung on stuff ALL the time.

I'd just throw a fluke or a spinnerbait.  Umbrella rigs work better in deeper, open water.

i beg to differ ... finnesse umbrella rigs work just fine in shallow water. went out this weekend and caught a 6, two 4's and numerous threes and twos an a little three wire umbrella rig my buddy invented. Right now, these umbrella rigs are my go to in shallow water ... because the bass are pushing shad UP, now down into the "deeper, open water".

thanks for your concern, but he actually was referring to a finesse rig, if you'll look at the very first post.

That is definately not a traditional rig.

I use a Picasso School-E Rig a Flash Mob Jr. for "finesse" situations.  None are thrown in anything less than about 6-7' of open water.  For what the OP is trying to accomplish, a donkey rig fluke would be a better choice.

No way...a finesse arig will out fish anything in flooded willows 90% of the time. When the shad are balled up shallow, a finesse arig is much better than a fluke, spinnerbaits, or donkey rig.

I threw the rig a bunch this weekend.  I got some bumps with a crank on but none with the fluke.  They weren't biting much of anything other than drop shot again this weekend.

But two guys said there was nothing better.  Guess that just proves once again, there are no absolutes in bass fishing.

I agree, no absolutes for sure. But if your not throwing the arig around shallow cover, you will miss out. I've had numerous days where the arig out fishes everything else 5 to 1 in shallow water.

Cant comment personnally on the "rig" as it's illegal in Il. What the OP has pictured looks interesting though. Definitely agree on the No Absolutes. That would make it too easy, right?

That is a lot of hardware being tossed into shallow water brush. If your Boo rig doesn't do it, give a pearl white hollow body frog a chance. You will miss a few strikes and stick some.

I did fish it shallow, but the fish that were shallow weren't really biting.  I tried throwing it into schooling shad.  There just weren't as many schools as there were last week.  Fish are still deep on my lake. 

 

I'm going to Musky waters tomorrow, so, I may or may not land some bass.   I'd like to throw it more, but where I'm going tomorrow it likely would get hung up loads.

 

I still think the rig would fish well with a fluke or any square/shallow crank.  I'll just have to give it another go.
