spinnerbait collor and blades

i fish in mostly stained water but never use a spinner bait so i was wondering what color and clades to use thanks

Ryan, think about investing in KVD's DVD Proven Spinnerbait Techniques from Bass Pro Shops.

Lots of information that you will find to be outstanding.

Try at white and chartreuse skirt with Colorado copper or gold blades. You want a lot of "thumping" from the blades.

If you want to add bulk add the same color trailer as the skirt.

Always add a trailer hook.

Guys will add to your post and take their advice, too.

But please consider getting that DVD as it is excellent.

In stained I like a tandem or a double colorado spinnerbait with gold blades. Chartreuse, white, white/chartreuse, black blue, or any bright or black hue skirt will be key.

How stained?  1 to 3 foot of visiblity you've got lots of options.  Less than a foot I generally go with a 1/2 ounce single colorado blade.  Either an all black one or one with quite a bit of chartruese in it.

Somewhat unrelated to your question but in stained water I will take advantage of the clarity and use Braid. Braid will increase your hookup percentage. I also prefer an ExFast action which will also help in hookup percentage.

I will second the gold blades.  I like to use trailer to bulk it up too.  Something with vibration like a big grub.

Great advice. Colorado blades produce more vibration.

Leo makes a good point also with the braid. Just be sure to use a lighter action rod as he suggests or you'll be yanking the bait away from the fish.

KVD's video would also be a wise purchase. He is the master.

How stained?

Great question, because everyone has a different opinion or perception of "stained" water.

For me in MA, stained water is about 5'-6'. I go to a "visible" color which is a white or white/chartreuse skirt, a gold blade and no trailer hook and maybe a curl tail grub.

The blade I use depends on the clarity of the water. Like I said, stained here is 5-6' in water I fish in and I still use a willow leaf blade, but sometimes after a heavy rain that will be reduced to maybe 3-4' which is Colorado blade time for me.

This is what I start with. I personally don't think that there is any "rules" to fishing a spinnerbait. I'll fish them anytime, anywhere. I fished just (within a week) before the water turned to ice and at high noon during a heat wave with bluebird skies and have managed a spinnerbait bite.

Keep chunk'n and wind'n, you'll get'em!

I have to agree on the KVD spinnerbait videos, buy both when BPS puts them on sale. These will save you 2 years TOW trying to learn on your own.
