Dylan L Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I am fairly new to bass fishing and I have never fished a jig. I mainly fish in 1-6 feet of water that is pretty stained. I fish the upper Tennessee River and a small farm pond. What weights, techniques, and trailers do you guys recommend? I have a 6'6 medium action Mitchell 300XE combo. Any help is appreciated! Quote
merc1997 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 with your medium action rod, i would first suggest using jigs with a smaller hook, or better yet spool on some braid. with fairly stained water, line should not be an issue. fishing no more than 6' deep, a 3/8 jig or lighter will do the job in most cases. fish the jig much the same as you would a plastic worm. a jig can also be swam much like a spinner bait, especially in these shallow water depths. as far as color, black and blue always works well in stained water. brown and orange, and black and chartreuse are also good options in stained water. hope this might help. bo 1 Quote
Dylan L Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 Would baby rage craws or KVD junior chunks in the same color be a good trailer choice? Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 With the outfit you have, it's not going to be able to fish a traditional jig well due in part to the rod not being stiff enough and the reel drag designed to work with 6 to 8 lb mono line. Bo suggested braid, not sure the reels bail roller can withstand abrasive braid or the spinning s guides, good if they can. You can fish jig trailers rigged with a sliding sinker, T-rigged, might be a better choice. Tom Quote
