Hmmm.....right now I can't afford any more hooks. Think it'd be alright if I tacked on a 1/8oz bullet sinker or a 3/16oz bullet sinker?

Sure Logan, a standard T/rig works well too.

So to be sure I understand this. It's okay to use a keel weighted hook along with a bullet sinker? By the way, I love the keel weighted hook. I hardly pull any slop anymore.

That's not something I would suggest.

I would choose either a: weighted hook, a T/rig or a Carolina rig.

X2... IMO, the Rooster is best used for flipping/pitching, C rigged, Rage Rigged, T rigged and mounted on a Naked Jig (without Skirt). As far as castability, I don't advise weightless but if you choose that presentation, using a 5/0 superline hook is the way to go ;)

Part of me is beginning to think that either I'm suffering from a brain fart concerning smokin' rooster or I chose the wrong color. Another part swears that it can't nessisarily (how ever you spell that word) be color. Strike King is not a rookie company throwing colors out there hoping that it works. June bug has to work. Heck, matstone caught a nice one with the same color.

Casting is still an issue for me. I put on some some 30# braid (8# diameter) due to my Spook wanting to climb a tree and run away. I'm hoping that will help. Although that rules out c-rig I think.

I can't help but feel a deep dark depressive weight sitting on me since I joined this website. Since I've joined, I've realized how very little I know about bass fishing. The website isn't the issue, however. It does what it's suppose to do: teach and inform. The issue is that there's an operator failure on my part. Either it's just not clicking with me or, in some cases, there are obstacles due to bank fishing that I haven't figured out how to get around.

Part of me thinks that I should take a week off from fishing. But there was one day I was real bad sick and it took all I had NOT to go fishing. Sorry, didn't mean to switch topics or go on and on. It's just that I don't have anyone here to really talk things through.

I think there is still hope logan and it may just be a matter of time.....

It's my opinion that Junebug is a color to be used in stained/dirty water or at night. Being a dark color bait, it provides a great silhouette in those conditions.

If it's bright out or your water is clear or just slightly stained, you may consider trying a more natural color like green pumpkin or watermelon/red.

When fishing soft plastics in general there are always three things to consider:

  • bait profile fish are keying-in on on a given day.
  • Bait color fish are happy to eat on a given day.
  • The presentation that is triggering fish to bite.

Now I know typing the above is much easier than actually putting it all together on the water but, if you work at it, it will happen.

Don't get discouraged either.

I had the same sort of thing happening with the Eeliminator when I first tried it. My wife would be catching fish one after another on the eel and I couldn't buy a bite on it for multiple outings. I got so frustrated that I fished just that bait for close to a month until I realized a slight tweak of my presentation made the difference. I was impatient and fishing of the bait to fast based upon conditions that led to all my frustration. Since then, I won't leave home without them and most always have one rigged.

Believe me, it times like these and all the experimenting that you do just trying to catch a darned fish that will ultimately make you a well rounded angler.

Keep your chin up Logan.

Thanks, mattstone, I appreciate your encouraging words. As far as color goes, I would normally agree with you. But, you know how sometimes you find a little quirk that doesn't fit the general rule of thumb? I have caught bass using a Zoom U-tail chartreuse pumpkin seed on a bright sunny day (or a lizard for that matter). These bass beat all I have ever seen.

I guess the solution for the time being is for me to save up the money and get a pack that has either green or brown in it. Since I've got to replace my Spook it'll be $10-12. For me that might take a little bit. In the mean time, I will try the June Bug when it's cloudy or when the water is dirty. I guess I was so stoked about finally getting a hold of the smokin' rooster that I didn't take things like what you said into consideration.

On the one hand you want to call bass fishing a money black hole. On the other hand, I could be spending the money on drugs or something stupid. I think fishing wins out. Heck, I haven't even played a xbox or playstation in almost 3 months. For me that's a record.

Color matters most when color matters MOST ;) Especially in clearer water and daytime conditions. All colors catch fish when they are aggressively feeding but the natural colors will trick the finicky fish more easily. Often during an aggressive feed time in clear conditions, the bright off the wall colors that can be seen from longer distances will receive more hits... Darker conditions will call for colors that sillouette better, like the dark or heavier colors. The color flake is an accent that adds some flash for added attraction.

Like many fishing experiences, it starts with a guess on where the fish are, then placing your bait with a chosen style of presentation... After this point, it's your opportunity to react to your results ;) You'll continue to improve your results as you try and test new colors, presentation styles etc!

Stay after'em Logan!

Okay, I got some black/blue flake earlier today. People have been saying that color works This morning I tried the june bug color on a c-rig, t-rig, chatterbait trailer, and weightless. At one point something started to take off with my Rooster on a c-rig, but it might have been a turtle. I have to assume that since the bass like my Yum version of GY Senko (black/blue flake), then it should be a good color for the Rooster. Hopefully I will have pics posted with it in a bass's mouth. At this point I don't care if a quarter pound bass takes it, just as long as a bass any bass takes it.

Man I can't wait for Fathers Day to roll in here. Taking myself fishing that morning and I don't plan on coming home until someone calls me and say's Fathers Day is Officially OVER!

With that said, I purchased a package of Watermelon Red and Junebug Roosters in the anticipation of things!
