Super User bigbill Posted October 4, 2013 Super User Posted October 4, 2013 I just ordered a Berkley Lightening Casting medium heavy duty fast taper 7' rod it was on sale for $30. I been looking for a heavier duty casting rod. I just don't like the upper weakness on some of my bait casting rods. I guess you call that the "power" of the rod. I plan on putting my new US Reel 800SX Hibdon super caster bait caster reel on it. I'm just not sure of using either 12# or 14# test line on it yet. I'm thinking of using it for top water and maybe cranks for now. Quote
dave Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I think your rods that are "weaker" (your words) at the tip, are much better suited for the uses that you mention. 7 MH for larger, single hook techniques. Jigs, big spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, worms... 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 · Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - Absolutely inappropriate Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - Absolutely inappropriate I have no idea why you keep buying junk and postings like it is something "special". If you were really spending this much money on the crap you buy and post, why not buy some decent gear? I DO NOT think you help younger anglers promoting this stuff. A MUCH better plan is to save their money and buy things that will last. All the crap you own will not be something anyone else will fish five years from now.
Super User bigbill Posted October 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 5, 2013 · Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - No reason given Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - No reason given I don't know what to say it's not something special it's just a fishing rod. I just don't know what to say. Any setup will get someone fishing and that's good. When I was a kid I spent $5 on a new zebco reel and I was happy to have it. Without it I wouldn't be fishing. I was happy to get a $40 rod on sale for $30 and replace my $9.99 rod what's wrong with that. 1
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 · Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage Well, it's not really a "fishing rod", it's a slight upgrade from a cane pole. For children and people that don't fish, they might consider it a "fishing rod", but for our members it is NOT a reasonable option.
Super User bigbill Posted October 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 5, 2013 · Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage Does this mean you only want members who buy high end tackle and others who buy what ever aren't welcomed here? Don't all of us have the same interest in bass fishing? So I'm not welcome here? I been here since this forum first started. I'm not a pro nor do I claim to be I'm just a guy who loves bass fishing. What tackle anyone uses or the cost of it shouldn't matter I'm out there fishing too. Does the bass fishing tackle I use make me a lesser bass fisherman than the guy who has better equipment. Are we judged by what tackle we use? 1

I see just how i rate,if i dont spend a certain amount on a rod/reel? You sir are a fishing snob. Good Day!

It is more than a reasonable option. let the guy be excited about the learning curve there is with fishing gear. at least he's doing it at in expensive rate. this isn't TT. Don't try and make it out to be. Anybody on "our" message board can use "lesser" gear and believe it or not it's okay for them to use it.. 1
Super User bigbill Posted October 5, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 5, 2013 · Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage Hidden by Glenn, October 5, 2013 - garbage I'm sorry maybe we need a section for we who purchase substandard fishing equipment. I just don't know what to say. I could fish with any rod as long as I could go fishing. I'm fishing from shore do I need a $250 rod and a $200 reel? The bass has no clue what my stuff costs. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean too. RW I did say before I will buy a better rod after the holidays. 1

I'm sure we all have bad moments. Glenn taught me how to use spinnerbaits and I had success with them. I had some great times here. It's time for me to move on sorry gals and guys, kids....

Super User ww2farmer Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 Given my previous comments about your recent reel buying spree bigbill, I'll do a 180 on the rod. A Lightning Rod is a good "bang for the buck" rod, all the better that you got it on sale. I own one of the Shock series Lightning rods. Funny thing is that rod sits on the deck of my boat, next to my $100, $150, and $250 rods, and puts just as many fish in the boat as the rest of them. If any one can find a better 7' MH casting rod for fishing reaction baits on braid, for the $39 I paid for it at Wal-Mart, I'll let them hit me with it.............. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 You can catch with whatever rod works, Bill. I STILL will use simple long poles (like cane poles, only better) to fish. I have even used them to target bass. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 Bigbill I have a $30 ugly stick and a $300+ Croix Elite guess which rod has caught the biggest fish yep the ugly stick. Quote

I'll post about this everyday till I get some kind of answer why this happened.

Super User tomustang Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 I'm thinking of using it for top water and maybe cranks for now. Usually top water rods are shorter for better action of the bait, and crankbaits have a moderation action for better hookups and fighting. The lightin is still a nice but the 7'MH fast would do better for the multipurpose spectrum like t-rigs/c-rigs/jigs etc. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 6, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 6, 2013 I have an older Berkley cherrywood med action spinning rod that I use for my lighter carolina rigs and plastics/worms. It's has the perfect action and feel to it. Now I'm looking for a baitcasting setup for the heavier weighted c rigs? I'm going to need advise as I buy new rods for making setups for each lure combinations. I'm going to an area I never done before. Roadwarrior you can help me too. I want a few bait casting setups for each style of fishing/baits. Quote
