Super User NorcalBassin Posted October 9, 2013 Super User Posted October 9, 2013 LM = 6 lbs (5-6 of them... cannot get over the hump!). I had a 12+ within about 5 feet of the boat until she did an unanticipated head shake when I took my eye off of her waiting for the net. That still hurts. Literally every time I go by that spot, painful. Took a buddy out for his birthday last spring (gets to fish 3-4x/year) and he caught a 10 lb 4 oz out of the back of my boat on a 4" grub I rigged up for him. Go figure! 1 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 11, 2013 Super User Posted October 11, 2013 Hey Steve I hope you put that big smallie back so I can catch her next year. The trouble with fishing lake erie for smallies a lot it is that it makes your largemouth look small unless they are grandes. 3 Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 MarkH, Thanks for the compliment. I do catch myself looking at that picture of the smallmouth every once in a while (I was lucky to have my buddy fishing in his boat nearby, so he was able to get a good picture of it as opposed to me trying to hold the camera out with one hand and the fish in the other). A-Jay, Haha...I figured you would recognize the background of that first picture (actually, that location was about 100 yards from where I met you and Dwight that one day on the water). Hey Steve I hope you put that big smallie back so I can catch her next year. The trouble with fishing lake erie for smallies a lot it is that it makes your largemouth look small unless they are grandes. Dwight, She is swimming free right now (I release all my fish except for the occasional trout caught in a put-and-take stream where it wouldn't survive through the summer heat anyway). I am surprised you are waiting until next year to try and catch her. I am hoping to get a few chances to catch her again (or her big sister) this Fall. As far as largemouth go, it is hard to justify fishing for them when there is a fishery like Lake Erie just two hours away with trophy class smallmouth and as you mentioned, the largemouth around here are just not that big (unless you are Speedbead. He has some special power in that beard of his, because the largemouth he catches are just obscene) 4 Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 If we couldn't locate large bass we would move closer to Erie and target those world class smallies. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted October 12, 2013 Super User Posted October 12, 2013 So there are two separate "Personal Best" threads going. This one has Great Pictures of Several Big Bass. The other thread, not so much. I am bewildered. A-Jay Quote
