Big Jon Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I just run through the calculations. How many times and places have I run a specific lure, how many times I think I need to. How many times I have thrown it using a different retrieve. What the weather is doing, what the water temperature is. I try to remember everything I see on the forums here and the articles I've read, and videos I've watched to try and implement the different techniques. Unfortunately, all this thinking doesn't seem to really help. The places I have to fish at the moment only produce on T-rig with green pumpkin/watermelon colors with a hint of blue. It doesn't seem to matter, post spawn/spawn/pre-spawn/middle of the summer/fall. If the water is not frozen over and I throw this setup long enough or slow enough, that is what they hit. I'm trying to figure out new lures and baits but they don't hit anything else it seems. I've only caught a couple fish on a couple other lures at random. Quote
jessejames556 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I think about a lot of different things, usually where I'm heading next. One thing I've noticed is I seem to catch the fish when I'm deepest in thought. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 As my lure is being reeled in if I can see it above the sight line(crankbait) or on the top(topwater) I'm 100% focusing behind my lure to look for the short strikes. Then I can adjust my speed or change lure color next. Once these two changes are tried I adjust the size of my lure. I think not watching behind our lures is the biggest mistake we can make. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 When I first get out on the water I tend to think about fishing. After I'm on the water for a while my mind starts to wander. Quote
kjfishman Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 how I have this nice Ranger, down imaging units with GPS, over $2,500 in rods and reels, storage compartments stuffed with tackle, piles of fishing magazines and I still cant get a bass to bite. Sometimes it seems like the more you spend on any hobby the less succesful you are. I have had more sucess this year fishing out of my 15 year old kayak, 3 poles and a small amount of tackle than I have with my big boat with all the electonics and all the rods, reels and tackle it has room for.. 1 Quote
keith71 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I think about family and friends and how I hope there is fishing in heaven. Quote

GeorgiaBassBros Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Completely depends on the day and what the past few have been like for me and my family. If its been a bad week then i wont really be focusing on fishing, itll be more of a deep thinking in the woods kind of deal. If its been a good week then im focused on that next pig to make the week even better. If im with my buddies (aside from ChasingBass) then its just jackin around, not much fishin goes on Quote
shimmy Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Always about where the big bass is...until time goes by and i start daydreaming about who knows what. I do know that i always end up singing or whistling something stupid or some tune that i hate and is obnoxious but gets stuck in my head. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Since I'm usually throwing a Texas rig, I think about how that plastic worm looks in the water and if it is rising off the bottom too much or too little. Quote
TRYTOFISH Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I don't think about anything. That's why I love to fish. Quote
RAMBLER Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 My mind never quits. Drives me nuts sometimes. I have to consciously shut off the ramblings and make a conscious effort to be aware of my surroundings. Then I can concentrate on making every cast more accurate, putting the lure exactly where I want it instead of in a tree or dead centered on the top of a stump. Why do I hit a 3" stump dead center and can't hit the 100 yards of water around it? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 6, 2013 Global Moderator Posted October 6, 2013 Am I useing the right bait? Did I throw it at the right spot? Too Fast Dummy!, Too Fast!! OK what am I gonna try next, Man it looks good here, Bears better win this week!! 7 months 24 days to retiring!!!! Mike Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted October 6, 2013 Super User Posted October 6, 2013 In Tournaments its about the cast I am on or the next one. I try hard not to stray but it happens. Fun fishing it can vary. Sometimes absolutely nothing at all. Quote
