I'm 17 so the shotgun rarely travels with me, but when it does as a precaution, it's a Winchester 1200 pump 12 GA. You might want to check the laws on that. To me its any gun you dont mind getting a little beaten up and a gun you could take out of the truck and put in the boat without attracting attention. Usually something a little less expensive. Maybe something like a Highpoint. They're heavy and sloppy but they work. Quote

Crappiebasser Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Why would you want a long gun in a truck? It's hard to raise and aim an AR in a confined vehicle. Asking a carjacker to wait while you get your rifle out probably isn't the best plan either. Quote

Same with putting a kit on a glock. IE stock or bull pup conversion kit. It changes the classification of the firearm. So long as you fill out the paperwork and don't remove the accessories. Your all right. Dont purchase the accessories until the paperwork is approved either. They will lock you up for that. An AR is ridiculous for an automotive defense weapon. Sawed off riot pump worked wonders for me. Stick with a shotgun or wait til your older and get a pistol. Trying to move something with a long barrel and stock in a confined space is beyond difficult. You will have a mag dumped into you before you can even get the danged thing up. Unless something has changed on the short barrel AR and AKs. I believe they still classify as handguns. So I think that would rule those out. Plus your going to be outgunned with a 30 rd mag anyway. My AK shoots 100 rd drums and 75rd drums. Hell even my glock has a 100rd drum. Drums are expensive to buy. As in 300 dollars plus as of my most recent shopping excursion. Gotta wait for the prices to drop again. Quote

I think the use or need should be covered first. The 12ga pump riot shotgun with a 18.5" barrel is one of the best for personal protection. With a Mossberg you can also get a 28" Mod choke barrel for bird hunting too. You get two guns in one. If you deer hunt there is a rifled barrel for slugs too. All I can add is look at all the options first to get the most bang for your buck. Quote

You're going to mess around and get yourself or someone else hurt or killed. Carrying a weapon is a huge responsibility and shouldn't be taken lightly. It definitely shouldn't be done to be the "cool" guy with the AR behind his seat. 2 Quote

Brian Needham Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I fully get the idea of someone wanting to "roll heavy" but you have to be careful, check your laws, HELL CHECK YOURSELF. You cant be riding around heavy with a bunch of attitude, or wanting to be cool. Yes, I know, you never know when a whole gang of thugs wantsto kill you. BUT you have to plan your routes and try your best to avoid those types of areas/sitautions at all cost. A Glock with 4 or 5 happy sticks should get you through. I fully believe if you got to reload, it aint good and you might as well go for broke at that point. I understand you are 17 and cant get a handgun, so the best thing for you IMO is look at your lifestyle and question why you are wanting to be armed in such a manner. good luck Quote
