Ever Lost A Setup In The Lake?

Not yet, but I have snagged three from the briny (ooops not briny) depths.  All were spinning rigs.  Two were snagged by the rods, the third was snagged by a big black jitterbug, which was probably floating off the bottom.  I noticed the line still had tension on it when I got the jitterbug on board.  Thought maybe it was wrapped around a rock or timber, but when I hauled back on it, up came a rod.

 

It was the only one of the three that was still usable. 

 

Under the "what are the odds?" category.  I broke off a jig in about five feet of water.  The next day, while fishing the area with a jig, I felt a weight on the line, so I set the hook, and brought up the jig I had lost the day before.

Lost 2, both pricey setups. Worst was last year in my buddies new bass boat on Table Rock. NRX 822DSR with a Stella 2500 FD on it. Thank goodness for insurance.

I've had a few combos hit the water, but always managed to get them back between jumping in or having my buddies snag them on the way down. I did loose a video camera last year. Big gust of wind came through and nocked the camera and tripod off the back of the boat into the water. The tripod was floating, but the camera had fallen off and sank in about 20 FOW. Good excuse to buy a  gopro.

Yup, Lake Erie tried to claim one. Fishing a walleye tournament, had a rig leaning on the bow rail off a 28' sport craft. The 3'-4' chop sent it overboard but went under the rail so the line was over the top. Luckily my drag was just tight enough to hand line it up. I was rewarded later with a 28" marble eye!

I left a rod a nd reel at a lake at Bush Wildlife.  Came back for it an hour later after I realized it was  gone. And somebody kept it.  Oh well. My wife did catch a rod and reel while fishing Lincoln lake near troy MO..

Had tucked one setup under my arm so i could zip my jacket and next thing you know it slipped right in to 25' of water. Lesson learned

Lost an expensive $700 pair of prescription glasses that flew off during  a boat run at high speed.   Needed a new pair anyway.   But that's a poor excuse.  Now I wear an older pair while fishing, and use an eyeglass retainer.

 

Also lost Calcutta TE 100DC and a Cumara overboard in a lake that one really hurt...went off the boat during high speed...impossible to retrieve.

 

Also had some gear stolen, about $200 worth of stuff...stolen by some guys in an ATV...

 

Once had a Chronarch 100C and a Crucial go overboard in a cove...tied on a Silver Buddy, made a few casts and got it back because the line was out.

Sank a abu garcia vendetta/black max twice and saved it both times...  One time took me around a hour to get back and the other time i caught it on the fall.. almost fell outta the boat.. luckily both in shallow water.... Other than that i had a BPS carbonlite with a JM carbonlite baitcaster. Fell off the back of my canoe in over 20ft of water. Once i heard the sound of the splash my heart sank... I turned around and the rod was floating ontop of the water... THANK YOU FOAM!!!!

I just lost my $200 sunglasses in the same lake this evening. My sunglasses were on my hat, I felt a giant spider beast on my face, shook my head to get the spider beast off, and in go the sunglasses. First par were stolen so I bought another because I loved them so much. Second pair were lost in a lake and recovered. Then I finally loose them tonight for good.

 

I have $500 literally invested in that lake. I better catch a bass over 11lbs in there to pay me back.

i dropped a 700 dollar saltwater combo in the water and lost it. boy that hurt so bad it mad me cry

Last week I was fishing for lake trout and drifting shiners. That morning I had spooled my bait-casting reel with a new roll of Power Pro and tied on a floro leader.

 

After catching nothing, I decided to move to another spot.  Reeled in all but one line and it was my freshly spooled bait caster.  Threw the motor in gear and drove several hundred yards.  I stopped and went to throw my line back in and the spool was bare.  I hadn't noticed the line peeling out.

 

I know compared to losing a rod and reel or other expensive equipment, losing line is small potatoes, but that didn't make it any less annoying.

Took a trip to Ohio several months ago....I took no fishing tackle with me so I used my friend's dad's combo.....it went overboard and was never seen again.....luckily it wasn't my combo and he wasn't ticked, because we were on his boat.....hahaha

That is the worst. What was the depth? Was it too deep to dive for it?

i live in florida, and theres gators everywhere, iv even seen them in brackish water, so its not a good idea to dive for it

Mine was an almost, caught my vendetta/revo s (brand new that day) combo on my backcast and flipped it in the water. Luckily I was able to stick the rod in my hand in the water and snag the crankbait that was on the vendetta. And somebody else mentioned losing sunglasses, I lost a pair of oakley half jackets to the niangua river two years ago and a pair of flak jackets to the elk river this year. Because of this I have started buying XPS glasses to avoid losing so much money every time I go on a float trip.
