What a horrible day and I need to vent.

Started the day with six spinner baits, including the three I posted on here the other day.

I ended my fishing day with zero.

First spinner bait was lost to a pike who cut through my line and got away with it. The next 5 were lost on logs/rocks on the bottom of the river in a span of about 45 minutes..

I dont know how that happens, I thought Spinnerbaits were suppossed to prevent this from happening.

What a nightmare.

I feel your pain. I just got back from loosing a soft plastic tube and hook, a crankbait that I've been having success with, and a brand new lipless crankbait that I was using for the very first time. And to add insult to injury, I caught one decent bass when I first started fishing, followed by nearly 3 hours of nothing.

Awww man that sucks. I suggest $1 Walmart spinnerbaits next time. You'll hurt less in your pocket.

You might have some branches and wedge rocks on the bottom.. I'd avoid the bottom rolling and skim them just over bottom.

That said I second, third and quad the Walmart spinnerbaits..

The Wally World spinnerbaits by me are on sale.. they were $1 each and now they are 50 cents..

I bought 8 spinnerbaits for $4 and change .. this the day after I paid $7 for one single custom spinnerbait at a tackle shop..

If any get snagged, its a 50 cent tear rolling down my cheek..

I was tempted to buy the entire inventory.. would've only cost me only alil over $20 prob for a lifetime worth of spinnerbaits

3 of the 6 were wal-mart spinners that I just bought, but still annoying when you have to cut the day short because nothing else is working

If you go to a doctor and tell him that your arm hurts if you do like this. Then he will tell you don't do like this.

It's just like that, if you loose the same kind of lures that fast,  don't do that any more. Or at least you might want to stop and think about something else.

One rock wall in my local lake eats anything with weight very quickly. However, certain baits survives better than others.

you could have bought a kayak with all the lures you've broken off the last few weeks.  which is exactly what you should do! in all seriousness buy a $200 kayak. it will change ur fishing life and save you a boat load of lure money

I'm not even going to mention how awesome it is gaining access to deep water/fish holding haunts

It happens to everyone. I lost or broke 4 $20 swimbaits in a day last year. A guy I was fishing with lost 6 LC pointers to hard pulling wipers and bad line a few years ago.

Sounds to me like your retrieve is a little too slow and allowing the bait to roll into the rocks and logs. When it hits bottom if you lift the rod then start your retrieve it should keep it just off the bottom if that's where you're catching most of your fish at.

That's what I tried because that's what I was always taught, however what I believe happened was when I pulled up to attempt to take the lure over the logs the hook got stuck in it. Also, I was taught that fishing spinnerbaits slowly and on the bottom is the best way for smallies.

Smallmouth will hit a slowly retrieve spinnerbait but some of my best days with a blade for smallies it seemed like I couldn't have reeled it too fast. If the water is clear a double willowleaf spinnerbait burnt under the surface will get slammed if the conditions are right.

Interesting. In the spinners I lost today was a while spinner that was a double blade. One of the blades however was painted to look like a minnow as well with an eye the same color as the eye on the spinner and with a white body. It was probably the coolest spinner i've ever had, cause some nice fish on it. The only luck i've had with it though was on a slow retreive.

Consider it the cost of doing business.

Being upset about losing lures is like being mad at your car for using gas while you drive. It's going to happen.

I call lost lures "offerings" to the fishing gods.

shore fishing will lead you to some revelations (especially in chunk rock):

1-light wire hooks. you can bend them out

2-light weights. light weight bounces, floats and slides across the tops of chunk rock.  heavy weight wedges down in it.

3-tie straight braid.  you can get away with straight braid in many places including stained water; with reaction baits; and in current. braid helps you bend out hooks and get ur lures back.

lots of guys change out their hooks before they are good enough anglers to benefit from it so they just wash money down river. i went thru a serious cotton cordell rattletraps faze while shore fishing.  braid to 15lb fluoro leader allowed me to bend out the hook (and seriously tested my connection knot skills).  i can't tell you how many times i got the same lure back.  then i bought a kayak and all these problems went away

I feel for you. Losing $$ lures hurts. When I start losing 2 of the same bait because of snags or rocks, I switch lures real quick.

Well said. I am not sure about it appeasing fishing gods, but losing stuff happens. When you run out of what you think will work it gives you the opportunity to try something else.  :eyebrows:

Now that is my favorite way to fish a spinnerbait, especially for river smallies!!!!!!!

NO WHINING -  You just had your personal best day of losing spinnerbaits.  For the record, losing 5 spinnerbaits in a day isn't anywhere close to a record.

You will have to try harder if you want to be a record setting spinner bait loser.   Also for the record, spinnerbaits are kind of like jigs in that if you don't lose one every

so often you aren't fishing them in the right spots.
