Mouldie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Mouldie nice fish. Must me a long fish, because that sure is a slim 9.5lbr. The angle I guess does not give that fish justice. Our first fish for the big fish category. Yeah the angle wasn't good. My buddy fishes better than he takes pictures, haha. Caught this one at Lake Ivanhoe (first trip there) Quote

The sad part is we took two pics, that was the better of the two :\, Can't complain, the memories are locked in. That's my 3rd bass this year above 8lbs. I doubt it will be my last. Quote

Lou I'm the same way if it's big it gets multiple shots I even check em lol 9.3 that would be a lot of people's PB. Idk my phone doesn't make the fish look that big. Sometimes the pic doesn't do the fish justice Quote

I guess I know where a lot of the big fish honors is going to now, since your on board. LOL. Quote

There was an article on Bassmasters I think last year, where this gentleman explains to you how to hold your fish to maximize the shot. Good read. Quote
Mouldie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 DISCLAIMER: This wasn't in October, but the fish I posted earlier was bigger than this one. Stupid angles. 1 Quote

If you can find this article, I'd love to send it to my friend. I just try to hold the fish as close to my head as possible to give it scale. Nothing worse than people trying to punch the camera with the fish. Quote

Mouldie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Nice fish man! Lake Ivanhoe, man that place looks like it holds fish. My son loves to say the name when we drive past. What did you catch it on? A Booyah Pad Crasher Jr. Brown/white belly. 7'MH rod, pro qual BPS baitcaster, and 30lb braid. The key with frogging is the initial presentation. If you can have that frog dangle from a tree branch or tall grass and then drop, you won't even have to reel before you get that bite. This one took it as soon as it touched the water (after dangling from the overhanging tree branch). Ivanhoe was surprisingly bigger than I thought and gorgeous. I wish we had more time, there were soo many great looking spots on that lake. 1 Quote

Back when I fished soft plastics exclusively I would use the tree trick and have success I'm waiting on my 9lb fish on a frog I can imagine how the blow up was if she slammed it Quote
Mouldie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 LMG and LOU keep telling me about those Booyah frogs!!! I think I am gonna have to add them to the wish list. I use Booyah and Spros. Booyahs have better hook up ratios and are cheaper but tend to flip over when going over cover. Spros have better action, but are pricey and begin to take on water way faster. Both have caught me quality fish, so I'm not biased. 1 Quote

It shouldn't be much of a contest. Look at AK and his North territory, they are loaded up there. Most of the fishing down here is canal fishing, and if you can manage to get into the flats. The clean lakes are where its at. Quote

Back when I fished soft plastics exclusively I would use the tree trick and have success I'm waiting on my 9lb fish on a frog I can imagine how the blow up was if she slammed it This one in particular slammed it hard, like a baseball bat hitting the water. I've had a few 5-6 lbers vacuum the frog down without making a splash. Super eerie. One second your frog is floating, the other it's gone and your line is being pulled. Quote

Florida Fish and Wildlife invest a lot of money and manpower developing these ecosystems. From the baitfish, all the way down to the sewage and irrigation that goes into the lake (to create an abundance of vegetation). I do miss living 10min from the everglades though. There are giants in there. Quote

Yea I know what you are talking about with the slurp. It often happens when you aren't paying attention and you feel the weight on your line Quote

Just wait til the BPS goes up right next door to me and you FORGET ACADEMY when that happens lol I was reading some things about it on sites and it is suppose to be one of the best BPS they ever built. They are having a huge lake that they will maintain, most likely pay to fish. You can also rent boats to fish there and they are holding tournaments! It is suppose to be the 4th largest attraction in FL, I may have read or heard that wrong but if so this will be fishermen heaven. MCS I plan on scoping out the place and when that lake goes up I am going to sneak on the property and fish out some monsters lol. When this goes up I know where I will be every weekend lol 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted October 7, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 7, 2013 Man I am jealous hearing about your guys spots, I have to avoid couches, shopping carts, bicycles, all kinds of junk in my canals. Maybe Lgmouth can relate. I am fishing for real urban bass, Lol, they are really skeptical of lures. 4 Quote

Who knows. They need that exit finished first, and they are blow'n N goin on that but that is still a couple years away......As far as BPS goes, I dislike as I do with most stores, their limited selection. All they are good for is Rods, line and hooks. Reels and plastics are better found elsewhere. Quote
Super User MCS Posted October 7, 2013 Super User Posted October 7, 2013 AK I bet they will gaurd that lake like the gold(if there is any left) at for knox. Dogs and snipers you ain't getting on that BPS lake unless you pay the piper $$$$$$$$$$ lol Quote
