fishingator Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Yea I never fished frogs before until this competition came about. I saw what some people were catching and decided to try them out and never looked back since then. I enjoy hearing everyones stories about how the caught em, how they lost or missed them, etc that's what makes our group fun. I have a few frogs but I just don't have any confidence in using them so I always bail on them :/. I need to go once and ONLY take the frogs. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted October 10, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 10, 2013 On my way home hopefully to get some time in. Is it weird that I want to rig my pole at the stop lights??? LOL..... we are creating a monster. Stop lights really? Now that I think about it, that has never crossed my mind. LOL Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted October 10, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 10, 2013 This question is more geared to the vets of the group, what is your "honest" cut off size? For me it's about 15" fish. I know every fish size counts and helps, but for some reason, 15" is my min. Quote

LOL I have a lifted Tahoe and my SO has a dodge truck and do you think I had either today...no. I had my daily driver which is a Nissan Altima so the end of the rods were up in my face the entire commute lol. Quote
fishingator Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 The good, the bad and the ugly report. Good: I tried a zoom lizard in a tricky area tonight and I got one! The fish trapped it against the weed line. Bad: it was only six inches roflmao. Ugly: I got murdered by Mosquitos! I tried my frog for longer but still gave in since I had limited time. I did catch a 12" on a wacky rigged worm. Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted October 11, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 11, 2013 I stepped out for about a half hour this evening at my neighborhood canal, but I had no luck. There was no signs of life. I swear in my neighborhood canal, the fish go to sleep like the birds when the sun goes down. I have yet to catch a bass at night, in all my years of bass fishing. Quote
fstr385 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 got a chance to rush out an hour before dark after work and hook this lil guy 4 Quote

Lou I've noticed that at a few spots. I know you can't go out at night night but that's probably when they will turn on around midnight or so, I haven't been night fishing in a long time I may try one day next week Quote

I had my daily driver which is a Nissan Altima so the end of the rods were up in my face the entire commute lol. You think thats bad. I have a S-10 with a camper top on the back. What you you think I did? Velcroed zipties to the ceiling of it to hang like loops so I can suspend my daily rig to it so its not in the way on the floor of the bed. Yeah, its about a $250 Super Duty/Carbonlite combo that is in there 24/7, but with it hanging from the roof, you cant even tell that its there. 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted October 11, 2013 Super User Posted October 11, 2013 I thought I would share this with you guys. I went to BPS today after work to pick up some 12# YoZuri line and some more Spooks, and I came across this. I have never noticed them before, but they happen to have them on an end cap, and I had to pick one up. Its a foldable plastic fish ruler. What I like about it is that its plastic, so it wont harm the slime coat. It folds in half to fit into my BassMember bag that I carry with me while I walk the banks. Also, its wide enough that I can lay a fish on it in the boat and not have to worry about having someone always take the picture for me. I only paid $6.99 for it, and it seems to be the meal ticket for me. It goes up to 24 1/2", so that should be enough length (or will it? lol). Spooled to Lews SD/Carbonlite combo with 12# YoZuri so that I can get back to using topwater baits with it, and am going to pound the banks with Martin tomorrow after work. I will let you guys know how this thing holds up and works out. OK, this is not letting me upload these pics. 1 Quote
dsidle61 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Gave in on my week off, went out tonight for about an hour. Had two misses on my frog. Moved around and went to my previous hot spot for frogs and was without a hit again. My first maybe 3-4 times there it was on fire, now the past 3-4 times its like there isnt a single fish in the area. Cant quite figure it out. Starting to get nice and cool in the evenings here in jax. Havent fished a fall/winter in florida yet, up north when it got cooler fish would love the top waters.....would you guys say the same is the case here?? AK i saw you mentioned that youre gonna be moving to soft plastics, wasnt sure if the weather was the reason. Quote
