CountBassula Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Hey Lou! 18 inches of awesomeness coming your way! Can you dig it! Got this puppy on a black 5" senko today after work in a canal near my house. I also got 5 or 6 other guys but they were all under 16" so no need to post. I gut hooked 3 of them, but used the "through the gills" method and successfully unhooked all of them! One was bleeding bad from his gut though. I hope he'll be find :/ Quote

CutlerJay Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 To all the North Florida Bass fishers... Before I start another thread I wanted to ask yall about places to camp (and of course fish up there). My family and I are planning a week camping trip up there over Christmas. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. And maybe we could do a little fishing together if it all works out. Cheers Quote

We are meeting my parents halfway (they live in Atlanta), so I imagine FLA-GA border is the farthest north. Quote

You would be right by the Ocala national forrest, there are a ton of ponds/lakes and then you can probably rent a boat for the main lake. IMO I would find somewhere near Ocala in the national forest or go to the west like Crystal River, Homasassa Springs. The rviers there are beautiful, you can rent a house boat and camp on that. But check out the map below....Up here in Jax fort Clinch is cool but it is more salt water and no fresh water fishing really I can think of and for the most part Jax and St. Augustine are more history and beachy type parks if that is your thing. http://www.floridastateparks.org/findapark/stateparksmap.cfm Quote

Right off 75 so they won't have far to go off the beaten path. Quote
CutlerJay Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 MCS Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check all that out. But now for the most important question....how is the fishing in December? Quote
Super User MCS Posted October 17, 2013 Super User Posted October 17, 2013 MCS Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check all that out. But now for the most important question....how is the fishing in December? Depends on where you are at but it isn't bad. Last 2 weeks of Dec. last year hear in Jax I caught some nice fish almost every trip(2-3 times a week). They were were feeding and getting ready for the spawn. They almost stay in a fall patern and go straight to prespawn pattern so you will get fish. A light texas rigs worked sweeping or slow rolling(not dragging - a bit faster than dragging). Ribbon tails, lizards, rattlesnakes on the Trig....Senkos, flukes, lipless, jerk baits and spinnerbaits were ok too as far as I can recall. Even if the nights are in the 40's or 50's water still stays up in the 60's or higher. A deeper pond(since that is what I am used to) stays active better than some of the shallow retention ponds.
