mattk22 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I throw a lot of crankbaits and get hung often. I have one of those Jewel Baits florescent dogs, but it doesn't seem to do that great of a job. I was thinking about getting one of the lure retrievers on pole. What do you guys recommend for a good lure retriever? Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 It depends, if you fish from a boat a weight and chain knocker does miracles, besides it goes as deep as you have cord and can be stored in very little space, I have BPS´ lure retriever and has saved me hundreds of dollars in retrieved lures, the only problema with this type of retriever is that it has you have to positioned almost right on top in order for it to work. Poles have one drawback, they only goe as deep as you have pole and the longest ones are, if my memory serves me well, 15 ft long, so you have to deduct to those 15 ft, 2 or 3 ft needed to handle the pole. Super User MarkH024 Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Speedbead turned me on to the 44 Magnum lure retriever. I have it, but not needed to use it as of yet. Google it to find out more about the product. Quote
deadadrift89 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 http://m.basspro.com/EZ-Lure-Retriever/product/44428/ This one has saved me lots of $$$$$$$. Wish i would have gotten the version that has reel to keep line spooled up. Quote
mattk22 Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 I am thinking about the Go-Get-It lure retriever, seems like a great idea. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 "Pocket knocker" has been the best and most effective for me- easy, storable, affordable. Quote
Chevydriver2123 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I have the same problem I have lost 100's of dollars worth but I fish from shore I rarely go on a boat. Does anyone know if there is any retriever from shore? Quote
JeziHogg Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 The EZ Lure Retriever has saved me tons of cash Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 I fish from shore in man made dam areas along the roadside where the drop off' s are and one place were a low bridge were I fish from. I used the lure blocker on the weighted mason line to retrieve lures. So far it's been working. But if I was on shore level with the water it might not work so good. From a boat it should work good too. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted October 1, 2013 Super User Posted October 1, 2013 Bill Dance lure retriever with the little reel and a telescopic light bulb changer is what I use. I have only lost 2 lures in the past 3 or 4 years with these. Allen Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I just put my order in last week for the 44mag. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 1, 2013 Super User Posted October 1, 2013 I have a retreiver from BPS that gets used in deep water. If I am fishing in shallow water that's maybe 3' or 4' feet deep I will use a pole. Quote
Missourifishin Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I've got pocket knockers being shipped to me now. I'll let yall know how they work for me. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted October 2, 2013 Super User Posted October 2, 2013 The biggest problem that I used to have with these was the cheapo reel they are put on. I took an old reel and cut off a broken rod about 4 inches about the reel seat and put the plug knocker on that. Saves me huge amounts of time and baits. This is what I did too. I cut the broken rod down to about 24" and wrapped some new guides on it. I mounted an old round reel and spooled it up with a very thin "rope." I use the Jewel Hound Dog retriever and so far in limited use, it's worked well. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 3, 2013 Super User Posted October 3, 2013 I carry both types of lure retrievers in my boat all the time. Some snags are more amenable to the plug knocker and others to the pole. It varies from trip to trip. Quote
Super User CWB Posted October 3, 2013 Super User Posted October 3, 2013 That guy from Hunt For Big Fish that dove into Piranha infested water to untangle a Peacock Bass for Larry Dahlberg would be great to have in the boat. 1 Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 3, 2013 Super User Posted October 3, 2013 I use A cheap BPS knocker, it works so I'm satisfied. Quote
Creekcrappie Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 The one from academy works the way it should. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 4, 2013 Super User Posted October 4, 2013 My oldest son is my best lure retriever. He will go swimming for any snagged lure in a heartbeat. This kid is so cheap he goes after $2 lures too. Thank God he's cheap. I do like my lure knocked I posted above when my son isn't with me. Quote
