WhiteMike1018 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 What are some of your favorite baits for flipping/pitching the lilly pads? This year I used a Berkley Havoc Slop craw paired with a punch skirt that I trimmed to make less bulky, I caught some decent fish with this bait. I have yet to experiment with Ik'es devil spear but will be ordering some off TW, but it looks like a great bait for getting in and out of holes, just what it was designed for. And when I say pads I mean fairly shallow 3-5 feet of water. Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I tend to use a Paca Craw on a T-rig (the full sized one). I have the option of changing the pegged weight size depending on the fish's mood and the claws on a Paca give plenty of action without catching the weed's stems. A beaver bait has a tendency to glide after entering the water, so I shy away from them and anything with legs that have a spiral action. Quote

I just got some Paca Craws and will be trying them this weekend. What size hook do you use them on? Do you ever throw them weightless? Quote
Frenchman83 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Sorry if this is a dumb question but if u are adding a skirt and weight why not use a jig? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Sorry if this is a dumb question but if u are adding a skirt and weight why not use a jig? Prefer the Texas Rigged plastic rather than the "Brush Guard" in front of the otherwise open hook. Additionally this bait is infinitely customizable. A-Jay Quote

Good Eye ~ It is a Berkley Powerbait Beast and unfortunately it's been discontinued for a couple of years now. When a trailer that "Glides" on a tight line is what they want - this one works nicely. I stocked up a while ago but starting to run a little low. A-Jay Quote
TheMightyQuinn Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The Berkley Beast was one of my favorite baits ever. I had about 8 bags when they discontinued them. I wish I had picked up a bunch of them. Very underrated. Quote

RNSkeeter Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 What's that metal piece before the hook and after the skirt? Quote
