Super User bigbill Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 Ok with my spinnerbaits right now I'm using a mister twister 4" split double tail grub as a trailer. I wonder if it has enough bulk to it for fall fishing when the bass are looking for more of a meal. What's the longest trailer you have used on a spinner bait? How about the longest trailer on a jig you have used too? Do you use longer trailers in the fall than in the springtime? Or do you use the same length trailers all year long. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I keep it simple. I want enough of the trailer sticking out from the back of the skirt to provide a realistic profile, so the claws on a jig trailer or just the tail of the grub on a spinnerbait. If the grub has an exceptionally long tail when extended I trim the head so that the tip of the trailer when in the water does not extend past the end of the blade, simply to reduce the number of short strikes. After a while it becomes a habit, with experience playing a good part. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 I have used everything from a brush hog to a plastic worm for a trailer. If I am getting short strikes with a big trailer I put on the same type and color, but in a smaller size. Quote
BadBassWV Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I've been using These http://www.netbait.com/home/index.php/products?page=shop.product_details&product_id=902&flypage=vmj_genx.tpl&pop=0 On a spinner Bait, in White. 1 Quote
bassin is addicting Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 the only trailer i use on a spinner bait...is a hook. 3 Quote
Frenchman83 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Have never used a trailer on a spinnerbait. For jigs I always use a Paca Chunck or a Yamamoto DT Hula. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 30, 2013 Super User Posted September 30, 2013 If I run a trailer of a spinnerbait, its a tube. I rarely fish them, but when I do I don't use trailers. Quote
fishguy613 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 i use mister twister sassy shads Quote
tallen316 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Myself, I keep it simple I go with just a trailer hook. Quote
michang5 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 I just started using a spinnerbait. I've been using a trailer hook instead of a plastic trailer. All of the fish I've landed have been hooked on the trailer. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 13, 2013 Super User Posted October 13, 2013 I've tried trailer but I never had much luck with then I just throw trailer hook on.. that's it .. but my uncle swears by uncle josh pork trailers... gave a shot a few times and not a nibble! Quote
Lip 'em! Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I rarely use a trailer on my spinnerbaits because they change the way the blades rotate when the spinnerbait falls and will cause the bait to run on its side if not rigged perfectly straight. I will occasionally throw on a trailer hook if I miss several fish and I am not throwing it around cover...which isn't very often. So most of the time I run my spinnerbaits naked. Quote

einscodek Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 My 1/4oz spinnerbait with a new bream trailer is gettin' bites more than most of my other lures this Fall. Color is white/chartreuse, 2-tone blade willow + colorado.. clear greenish striped bream trailer w/ tail protruding 1" out of skirt Quote
Lip 'em! Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 You throw Terminators? Negative. Slongs most of the time with an occasional strike king. Quote
Bass Junkie Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Negative. Slongs most of the time with an occasional strike king. Alrighty, just wondering as I tend to encounter that A LOT with the titanium arms. Quote
jiggz125 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 What is the correct size trailer for a 1/4oz swim jig? I see trailers/grubs ranging from 3"-5" as trailers. What works best for everyone? Quote
Hattrick7 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I've been using a single tail grub i think it's 4" in white. Kinami is the brand. It was the only one they had at the local Big 5. Been using it ever since. Caught a nice 3.5 lber last week on it. Bass just crushed it. I've tried other trailers from Yum but no luck. I like to rig mine with the tail pointing down. I think it has the best action. I think a trailer does make a difference but, at least for me, I've noticed that the bait is more successful when I'm just slow rolling it. Quote
