Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 29, 2013 Super User Posted September 29, 2013 4:am I hear a big clank, looks at my water tank and it's flowing like Niagra. Got the gushing to stop but still have a lot of water leaking out, just glad I was still home. Cleaned up as much water as I could, then had a plumber come over at 8:am. Got all the water cleaned up but a lot soaked into the walls and he cut about 30' of wallboard out. Be back soon with a new tank and put the dryers on. Need drywall work, painting, carpeting, maybe kitchen cabinets and a few other things. Insurance adjuster should be coming in a day or 2, have to see how this one plays out. Do not want mold ! Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted September 29, 2013 Super User Posted September 29, 2013 Good luck, fortunately you were home. Surprise home emergencies are always fun..... NOT. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 1, 2013 Super User Posted October 1, 2013 Yikes! Not a good way to start the morning. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2013 any update? Yeah..........I posted this to Facebook this morning, mind you this is the abbreviated version of the events. A bit of chaos going on over here. This past Sunday morning at 4 am I hear a loud bang, my hot water tank burst. No basement here so I have Niagra falls gushing into the house, I was able to stop the major flow but still some leaking. Between trying to find a plumber at that time of morning and vacuuming water (I'm so sore I can't move) I have major stress happening, doing this all alone as Marsha is out of town. I get a guy over at 8:30 and lucky to do so he stops the water and starts water extraction. Under duress I sign something, he claims a contract for restoration, I didn't like this guy from the git go but by the end of the day I have a new tank and sections of drywall cut out and loud fans drying the place out. Insurance claimed filed and waiting for adjuster I'm nervous about this guy, so I get a recommended professional company Monday and decide to go with them. #1 guy is ticked and won't sign a release, another snafu I have to work thru, he comes over and removes his equipment while the adjuster is in my home. That's all done and I leave to just make it in time to get Marsha at the airport. Tuesday new company puts there fans in place and does a lot of drywall cutting, this place looks a bomb went off. I move my computer and then set it up an hour or 2 later so I can function, it won't connect, 3 calls to comcast and they say I need an upgrade modem. Waiting at Comcast for 2 hours I get my modem, set up and it still doesn't work, finally starts working but the wireless network and telephone isn't, tech coming today, and I run out of vodka.................the next 60 days are going to interesting living of of cardboard boxes. I did catch a nice snook yesterday morning, had to get out of the house for a few...........lol. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 2, 2013 Super User Posted October 2, 2013 Bummer. You are totally right about the mold. Please make sure all surfaces are and continue to be mold free. Glad you were home when it happened. Keep us posted on your progress with the insurance company. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted October 2, 2013 Super User Posted October 2, 2013 That sux, I'm lucky my water heater is in the garage. Hopefully they will have you fixed up soon Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 2, 2013 Super User Posted October 2, 2013 Wasn't your hot water heater sitting in a pan with plumbing run outdoors in case of a leak? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2013 Yes it was sitting in a pan but I didn't have a leak, the side seam ruptured sounding like a bomb and spewing water like a gusher. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 7, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 7, 2013 Now that I have a few days into it the restoration is starting to happen. Didn't feel my original contractor, (that's an over statement and why I canceled with him) was up to the job. Contractor #2 is a recommended professional from my insurance co and so far I'm pleased. Haven't seen any problems from ins. co, time will tell on that issue and waiting for some reimbursement money. We have about 40' of drywall cut out and hopefully that repair should be completed tomorrow or Wed., then it's on to the painting. Not sure if we are getting new kitchen cabinets, don't wanna say yes and kabash it, that's going to take some time. All goes well I'll be able to put my 8' wide 2 piece work station plus my entertainment center back together, this weekend. Not looking forward to that ordeal with all the components and 6 speakers. I put it all together in the first place myself and dismantled it, everything is marked and diagrammed so it's more a matter of time than hard work. All that said I'm missing some good fishing, been getting out to the beach or ICW for an hour or so pre dawn but that's it, caught a few snook. I need a trip after this, bonefishing in the keys sounds good to me. Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 that must really suck. my sisters friend and neighbor had something similar happen but with a bathroom sink, except she was out of town when it happened. water flooded their mobile home and basically destroyed everything, that had to suck. anyways, at my house, were going with one of those tankless water heaters, and adding in a water softener.
