QC at Zoom?

I hit BPS yesterday afternoon to use up my rewards points and noticed the Zoom plastics were 25% off, so I grabbed a bag of Speed Worms. Well, while tidying up my little shop this evening I picked up the bag of Speed Worms and figured I'd take one out and look at it. This is what I found...

A total of 8 out of the 15 in the package look like this.  >

So far, I'm not impressed. Heck, Brent's "Dents & Dings" look better than that, and they're only $1.39  >

that sucks though. i guess when a company produces so much plastic baits , a few damaged ones will slide under the radar. iirc , i havnt had any problems with zoom baits with the exception of a few minor things.

have you tried emailing or calling them to see what they have to say about it?

It seems strange that it only happened to some of the baits.

Are you sure it might not be from being stored a certain way for a long period of time? I work at a store that sells tackle and sometimes if we have plastics in the back with stuff sitting on top of them or pressing against them they will get deformities like that.

i would think that if something were sitting on the package , the rest of the baits would show that as well. just looks like these slipped past the QC guys.

That looks like something that happened in production. A nicely worded e-mail to Zoom would probably get you a couple of bags of baits for your trouble.

I sent them a message through their website right before I made my post here.

The funny thing about the deformity is that it's so consistant. The first few I removed from the bag were so similar that I almost thought the depression was a hook slot.  ;D

That deformity may give it that difference in action that the fish would tear up.

afaik , speed worms have no such thing.

This is fairly common actually, it happens a lot with the Horny Toads.  I have heard that its zooms fault in QC.  Then again I've also heard that its the store's fault in the way they "store" them.  Probably a combination of both.

Anyway do you really think the fish will care?  Cuz I don't.

If they did that it would be the same price as Lucky Craft with the quality of Renegade.

I guess if you make a gazillion baits a year, a few defects get through. I've used thousands of zoom baits over the years, and I don't think I've ever had one that wasn't made properly. I am willing to bet the cost of those baits, that Zoom makes it good.

Some of the zoom plastics will be crooked or deformed, in a really bad pack sometimes it can be almost half. But the good ones are such good plastics that zoom is still pretty much my favorite or second favorite plastics manufacturer behind only GY.

Depends on how's it's sitting in the box but I if they are all deformed in the same way then that probably means it was a production error.

One or two I can see, but the deformed baits outnumber the decent ones in this pack.

I highly doubt the fish will care, but I do. I don't mind buying "blems" as long as they're labeled as such. I'll probably use these worms as it's really not worth the time to return them to BPS and Zoom is apparently not interested in doing anything about it, but it will definitely steer me away from Zoom plastics in the future.

while i understand your feelings , i wouldnt totally write them off. occasionally emails do get sent to junk folders and never get looked at. it is possible this happened and you arnt getting a response.

I fish speed worms rather extensively during the summer months for deep water and I recently bought a few packs of the Magnum Speed Worm and every one of them had that lil indentation, but the fish did not care. I just used them as a hook slot for the giant hook that you have to use for that giant worm.
