KyakR Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Just wondering if anyone has any, and if you do, what do you think of them? 1 Quote
MrsBassAssasin Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I have special tour grips on my rods (like a golf club) and I find it helps with wrist fatigue. 1 Quote
MrsBassAssasin Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 They aren't especially for women though Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 28, 2013 Super User Posted September 28, 2013 Not specifically just for women but the 50 size shimano baitcasting reels (curado 50e, chronarch 50e, core 50mg) are of a smaller physical size. The thumb bar a bit lower to the rod handle (1/8" or so) than my "full size" baitcasters, this can be different from brand to brand though. The profile is slimmer top to bottom and they are thinner left to right width wise. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted September 28, 2013 Super User Posted September 28, 2013 My wife has small hands but doesn't have a problem with any spinning reels, the shimano 50 size baitcasters are her preference. She doesn't have any different problem with rods that I haven't seen. Usually it will come down to personal comfort Quote
Super User bigbill Posted September 29, 2013 Super User Posted September 29, 2013 Yes they do offer lighter weight rods for women but I don't remember where I seen them maybe bass pro shops. Bill Quote

MrsBassAssasin Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I have an avid pearl, very nice rod, my ONLY complaint is the grips Quote

KyakR Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 Went to Beans ( I live next door) and took a look at an Avid Pearl.......I see what you mean about the grips MrsBassAssassin! These are great choices, all. On payday I'm gonna have to count to 100 (days?) before I one-click for the Chronarch 50e Quote
awefvawervwae Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I personaly dont seeing as I am not a femal. I have though made several specificaly to fit what they have wanted. If you are in the market for one check with a custom rod builder in you area. They should be able to build it to directly fit you and to how you want it. Quote
Dramer77 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 i just picked up 2 new rods that some women may like, the *** *** black rods are very light and the grips are a bit smaller than most other rods, I myself dont have particularly large hands, my hand are more wide than long.. i like the way these feel in hand VS other brands.. and theyre not that expensive compared to most other nicer brands of rods... these things reviewed better than alot of more expensive rods too.. Basshammer Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Bass pro shops used to have or still do have the hump grip which is very comfortable in your hands. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 Did you find anything in particular? Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 I know companies make rods listed as being for women. Whether or not there is any actual differences between the makeup of these rods and the ones sold for men is something I wouldn't know. I seriously doubt they design reels to be used just by women. I don't count a pink paint job as being a reel design. I am sure it is a ploy to get women to buy their product. My daughter would only have pink rods and reels. In the case of rods and spinning reels, that is all she owns. Her baitcast reel is not pink.....but not by choice. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 19, 2014 Global Moderator Posted January 19, 2014 My wife has an Avid Pearl spinning rod and loves it. She has very small hands and it was wearing out her wrists to fish with any of my rods but she's gotten along great with that rod. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 Nope. Sorry. Never heard of such a rod or reel but it would be interesting to see if there is a market for such a product. Good thinking on your part. That type of rod or reel is really overdue. Quote
Mike2841 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 The lews tournament mg is pretty compact Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 19, 2014 Super User Posted January 19, 2014 In the early 90's Fenwick tried marketing a line of rods geared to women. They were called LadyHawk I think. I don't think that they were HM blanks, but the next step down in blanks, whatever that was at the time. They sold for between $60 an $90 at the time as I remember. The rod grips were shaved down a little and the guide wraps were a teal/magenta combination. I got one on close out because at the time I had a girl friend who thought she might want to fish. I put a medium priced Diawa Gold cast spin cast reel on it and it worked OK. She appreciated the no-backlash aspect to the set up. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 A person of smaller stature, whether they're a lady or a youth may find that a shorter butt grip and smaller diameter gip is a little more comfortable but that's all really. The same goes for some men and their best bet is a custom build. The differences are so slight and the comparatively small share of the market with a strong enough interest, I think keeps maunfacturers from investing in an exclusive line-up. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 20, 2014 Super User Posted January 20, 2014 The St. Croix Avid Pearl are the only rods I know of that seem to be made with women in mind. Fisher Girl makes some womens rod and reel combos but they look pretty cheesy. Quote
