CC268 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I currently fish up in Northern Arizona in the Williams Lakes, Lake Mary, and the Verde River...occasionally Bartlett Lake when I am home from college and in Phoenix. I just got a Bass Pro Pond Prowler and have been fishing from a boat and have been trying my crank baits. I have NEVER caught anything on a crankbait (fishing from the shore with them was impossible here, but now I have a boat and can use them!) Currently, I have a Bomber Flat A, Rapala Floater, Rapala Shad Rap, and Rapala Husky Jerk. I am just wondering if I should stay with these or try to get some deeper diving crank baits...? Any suggestions I guess. Quote
Swampstud Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 The rapala dt series would be a nice fit, cover several depths. I like the shad raps too Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 27, 2013 Super User Posted September 27, 2013 Square bills and jerkbaits in the fall: Square bills:Nornam Fat Boy, Bomber Square A, KVD 2.5 Jerkbaits: Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue, LC Pointer Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 27, 2013 Super User Posted September 27, 2013 You can't go wrong with lipless cranks. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 27, 2013 Super User Posted September 27, 2013 Not sure what the depths are on the lakes your fishing. I like the KVD 1.5's, Bomber Square A's, Rapala Shallow Shad Raps, and Bandit 200 Series for depths 5-6 feet and less. That's really the max depth on the lakes I'm fishing so I don't really have any experience with anything that goes deeper. Or you could go with a lipless crank. They can be fished at any depth depending on your retrieve. For lipless cranks I like the Red Eye Shad. Quote
dreamertino Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I like lipless cranks my personal is a Cordell super spot when the budget gets tight or a strike king red eye shad Quote
fishguy613 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Cordell super spot for lipless cranks, personally i find the stock hooks extremely dull so i always switch them out. Rapala makes some decent ones too For standard cranks - Jointed shad raps (crayfish, baby bass, yellow perch) Yo-zuri shashimi cranks, deep running shad raps, strike king KVD square bills, rapala flat rap, cotton cordell big O's, xraps, Quote
Nice_Bass Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Anything with norman in front of it... Quote
Hattrick7 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 KVD 1.5 sexy shad square bill is the one that works best for me. I also like the one from Kinami in gold/black. Quote
olegs Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Jointed Shad Raps ( Fire tiger, Shad), lipless cranks, KVD 1.5/2.5 square bill Quote

WhiteMike1018 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I really love the Cranky M by River2sea and had much success on it at all times during the year. Also a huge fan of the Rapala Crankin Rap and the KVD cranks are nice also. As for catching fish on them you really need off-color water or some type of wind and or overcast is always great. When its dead calm and sunny I most likely wont be cranking. -Mike Quote
BuckMaxx Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Those are probably deep clear lakes. For those I choose the most realistic looking cranks I have in my box. I have went to custom painted cranks over the last few years and I really think it makes a difference. Quote
CC268 Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 Picked up some new cranks, pretty much most of what you guys recommended. Went out to this little reservoir and the water is pretty clear...it wasn't windy. I didn't catch anything but maybe it just wasn't a good time to throw cranks Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 If you are looking for more, I am getting ready to post some in the flea market. Medium divers. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 1, 2013 Super User Posted October 1, 2013 You should add Lake Pleasant to you local lakes list. Both Bomber 7A and Norman DD14 in shad colors work well where you plan to fish. Bomber and Norman and a good value, good hooks and work well out of the box. Tom Quote

Tom I could go to Pleasant when I am in Phoenix....but getting around on my 10 foot Pond Prowler and my 55lb trolling motor on that lake would be slow haha Quote

MichaelJ7 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I'm not a crankbait expert by any means but I can hold my own. Using electronics to find the fish is more important than just about anything. I typically am not a strike king fan but for clearer water I have the most success with the kvd strike king cranks. From the 1.5 to the 5xd. In murky/dark water I like a loud bandit crank to get that extra needed vibration. Quote
CC268 Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Well to this day I haven't caught a thing on a crankbait so I mainly stick to jigs and a texas rig Quote
