Throwing a medium sized yellow/gold spinner into a shallow area along the banks of the grand river. This spot has a down tree which bass like to hang out under..and apparently pike..

As soon as this bad boy hit it I knew it wasn't a bass. Nice fight, just sucks my 8 dollar spinner is trashed now. 25 inches btw.

Sorry about the spinnerbait.  At least you got the fish in.  We have had muskie short strike jigs and spinnerbaits that bite off the skirts.

Good fish!  Pike/pickerel seem to love spinnerbaits and I've had them trash more than a few of mine as well.  All you can really do is try and bend them back into shape or go out a buy some more and keep on fishing.

Pike and pickerel do indeed love spinnerbaits and it's common for them to do a job on them. My philosophy is to accept the loss of the baits or use cheaper spinners when in pike waters.

$1 Wal Mart spinnerbaits are your friend in pike waters. Titanium Terminators are another good option in the areas with the toothy critters.

I just finished setting up my new Mann's spinner bait and tweaking it when a nice 3lb bass bent it all up. I never had spinnerbaits bent up this bad so I know I'm finally getting this spinner bait thing perfected.

I just caught another pickerel but it's teeth were different much larger than the normal pickerel. Plus it tried to bite me as I removed the lure. I think it was a little pike.

I had my first successful spinner bait that I changed the blades on only to be ripped off by a 30+" pickerel. He came parallel to the shoreline within inches as I was about to take it out of the water when he ripped it off my line and took it with him. I had the setup on the money and he let me know I did. I had the perfect presentation too

Nice snake northern and I agree with Bluebasser on this one. I lost many a $5-8 spinner to pike while fishing in Wisconsin waters. Sometimes, bending that wire straight as possible and fixing the skirt can produce an interesting wobble in the spinner that for some reason bass tend to love (odd, but positive, side effect of the toothy slime snakes).

I have an inline spinner from a pike that got hit hard by a 36" long pike (~8 lbs) and permentaly kinked. Now it runs a little off-kilter but hulls in bass and pike better than anything in my tackle box.

Pike are part of the reason that I do not fish spinnerbaits. I know a guy who feeds 2-3 Booyah spinnerbaits/week to the Pike.

I use a inline spinnerbait and they seem to hold up better than normal spinnerbaits cause they are compact and all i will get is a bent hook most of the time.

That's a nice fish man! Don't go expensive when pike/pickerel are in the water

I may try some ice fishing thinner steel leaders soon. I can bend it back, I hate losing them.
