Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 25, 2013 Super User Posted September 25, 2013 I have been thinking of up grading my Chronarch 200 up to a Ci4 but can't commit to it right now. I have a smoking deal on a Core 50MG7 I can get. I would plan to pair this with my DX745. For those of you that pitch jigs with it, can you tell me what you think? Does it feel under powered? I will be pitching 1/2oz jigs 90% of the time with the occasional 3/4oz and a 1oz plastic to punch mats. Mainly pitching with occasional short casts. Or would the Core 100 be better suited? I really want the 7 gear ratio for jigs though. Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted September 25, 2013 Super User Posted September 25, 2013 I use curados and chronarch 50's with pitching jigs from 1/4 to 1oz, no under power at all. Using the core, with it being smoother than the other two 50's I'd rather use it for a moving bait, but no problem for what you're looking at. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 25, 2013 Super User Posted September 25, 2013 i use 51s and 51mg chronarchs. no issues at all. love em. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 25, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 25, 2013 Thanks guys! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 25, 2013 Super User Posted September 25, 2013 That's a slippery slope... You are not going to like your other reels as much as you probaly do now. I have both the 50 and 100. I prefer the feel of the 50 size. My 50 is saddled up on a G.Loomis MBR842C. As tomustang noted, I think the Core really shines with moving lures. This is my dedicated swim jig/ small swimbait rig. Quote

I run swims more than I do flippin jigs so this may be a twofer. You mention you for the NS original swim. What weight do you throw with your Core? Quote
bmlum415 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I use my core 51 for pitching and skipping jigs Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 25, 2013 Super User Posted September 25, 2013 The core 50 is Superman, it can do anything! Lol The thing is it excels in throwing lighter baits so I use mine for plastics, finesse jigs and the occasional jerk-bait. Most of my reels will flip a big jig so I use other reels for flipping that way I don't have to devote my Core50 to flipping since it's such an excellent finesse reel. First and foremost, if you found a smoking deal BUY IT!!! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 26, 2013 Super User Posted September 26, 2013 I don't fish light lures and my lighest jig is 1/4 oz + trailer, probably at least 3/8 combined. 3/8 + trailer gives you a lot more distance. Quote
ec1 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 You're asking a top of the line reel to do something that most reels can do. Don't worry! On another note, the core looks very beautiful on a DX rod. Both the rod and reel has a very nice metallic flake paint finish, although not the same colour match wonderfully. Quote

I was just concerned about it being smaller. Quote

bmlum415 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Your not helping my wallet lol.hahaha. Believe me my wallet isn't getting any heavier, in fact it's getting lighter and lighter every time I look no tackle warehouses website lol. I just picked up a dx702sf, a stradic ci4+, and a few megabass vision 110s so I'm flat broke now:( 1 Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 29, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 29, 2013 50MG7 is on the way. Should be here Wednesday hopefully. Do the higher end reels like the Core need bearings flushed and lubed cleaned out like the rest? I'm buying this for my pitching rod, but the more I read on how great it is for moving baits, I am thinking my swim bait set up might want it more. Thanks for all the help guys. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 29, 2013 Super User Posted September 29, 2013 Well, I don't really know, but I just feel better knowing everything is perfect. 1 Quote
bass1980 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I once had this concern but found the answer on here to for assurance. No problems using my CH51E for 1/2oz jigs. I just wish the CH51E came in 7.x:1 gear ratio. I know you can put in core gears but don't want to spend anymore money on the reel because still getting more setups. The 50 series size is great for people with smaller hands like me. Core 51 is my next reel. Quote
Brian Needham Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 go ahead and super tune that core 50 and set it up on a DX. only drawback is the bait monkey will coming trick or treating every night, not just on Halloween. I still have a supertuned core 50 with bocas on a 742c dx for shakeyheads/weightless senkos and it is the primo of the primo. By far the sweetest thing on earth. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2013 Brian, I'm kinda torn now. I want to put the 50 (which will be here tomorrow) on my 745 but then again I want to put it on my Jerkbait rod when I get it BTW, sent ya a PM Quote
Grantman83 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I used my 50 on a champion 683 for flukes and light jigs/spinnerbaits and such. It can be used for pitching no doubt, but as has been said, most reels can. I'd say keep it for moving baits tight quarters. My dx 745 has a zillion 50th on it and it balances perfectly so I would assume the 50 to be abit light. Quote
Brian Needham Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 but yes, the core will do FANTASIC on a 745.....I assume you are going to run #20 on it correct? and since you will be pitching/flipping line capacity will not matter. Quote

I preferred the looks of the 100 over the 50. I liked the way the spool was locked in along with the smooth side plate. I am going to throw the 100 on my jerkbait set up and get a 100MG7 to put on the 745. The 50 balanced weird on my 745. Hard to explain but the 200E7 and 100MG felt much better over all when pitching. Balanced better over all. I switched my jig rod back over to 40# PP Slick. The 20# Tatsu had so much memory yesterday, that my pitching distance was dang near cut in half. Quote
