I heard some people saying chatterbaits are the new lure to get. I think i would like to try one but have a few questions about them first.

1. What are the days, time, conditions people believe you should use them?

2. are they a spring summer or fall lure?

3. are they weedless?

4. any other input i can get from people who fishes a chatter bait

Chatterbaits, like any other bait, has a time and place.  Some people use them almost exclusively, but that really limits the angler's potential. i have found, and again this is only in my experience, that chatterbaits work best during the pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn portions of spring.  Once the heat really kicks in down here in the south, my chatterbait bite really dies off.  Also, I seem to do really well with them on windblown banks and dirty water areas at the mouths of creeks.  I haven't had much success with them on bluebird days with clear water and no wind.  If you are going to get a chatterbait, get a quality chatterbait.  I suggest the KaRu Vibrashock, it's a great design made with quality components and has great skirt colors.

Up in Wisconsin chatterbaits catch me more northerns than anything. I like to use them where the cover is a little bit too much to throw a spinner bait into. I have found that chatterbaits work better on cloudy cool days in the early summer and fall.

1. Some time between Jan 1 and Dec 31; from dawn til the next dawn.

4. They are "wood magnets" and will hang on any piece of wood in the area

In short, they are a great search lure. The vibration will call fish from around the area and intice them to strike. You can use them almost anytime you are fishing and they are great for fishing in grassy areas as they will come through (sometimes with a tug and show up back at the boat clean as a whistle). But they are not good for fishing around brush piles or lay downs as they do tend to get hung up on wood.

I've used them for a few years now.  I pretty much see them as an alternative to a rattle trap or a spinnerbait.  Some days they work better, other days, not so much.  Figuring out when & where to use them instead of a rattle trap or a spinnerbait is still a work in progress.

Very good for running into timber inducing a reaction strike. I like to use split tail trailers (same ones for spinnerbaits)

Chatterbaits catch fish year round. On sunny days and on cloudy days. On windy days and on calm days. In clear water and in stained water. There is no magical answer or magic bullet. If you buy into the fact that they only work when its windy or when your in stained water etc... then that is when they will work for you.

I have caught fish on the chatterbait all year round. Rig it skirtless in the spring with a live magic shad as a trailer drop it into a bed jig it up once let it fall back into the bed and watch them inhale it!

For me chatterbaits really pick up in the spring and fall.  I like to use them fishing in grass on a windy bank. 

Also, give em a shot at night.

My favofite way to fish a chatterbait is skirtless with a fluke trailer. I will use this setup as soon as I see bass feeding on shad this fall.
