Looking for a rod that will throw a 3xd to a 6xd. Not looking to spend a ton of money. It will be paired with a revo winch. How are MH rods for crankbaits? Is the moderate action the big difference? I only have fast action and extra fast action mh rods so I havent really been able to test the difference.

ive been looking for the same type of rod, and i think i finally found it, the dobyns 705cb or the powell 725cb or 755cb. i was also looking at a few shimano cranking sticks but really like what the dobyns and powell have to offer

Yes to an MH if you want to go up to a 6XD.  Yes to a moderate action - you generally want that action for crankbaits.

Now - which rod?  You say you don't want to spend a ton of money. So, how much $ do you want to spend?  If you're looking for about the lowest cost, but good-enough quality and performance, consider the BPS Crankin' Stick - lots of value in this rod. I have 5 of them. Price has gone up recently on these and they are now $80 (I got mine for $60 or less).  If you're not in a hurry, they frequently go on sale for $10 or more off the regular price.

If you want to spend more than $80 - there are other options and folks will be along with other recommendations.

Good luck on your decision!

Powell max 703cb glass is the most versatile cranking rod I've used. It handles lipless, squarebills, medium. And deep divers exceptionally well!

My local bait and tackle was selling skeet reese rods for 39.99 as they normally do throughout the year.. the C-Rig/Swimbait rod is a 7'6 MH moderate fast action rod that I believe works amazing for cranking med-deep crank, traps, big spinners.. basically any moving bait with some weight to it... PICK ONE UP.. you will love it!

Are those BPS cranking sticks composite?

From the BPS website:

"The Crankin' Stick's blank composition is a unique blend of IM6 graphite, fiberglass, and basalt fibers..."

For those that are interested in this rod - ignore the BPS action ratings of "fast" and "extra fast."  I don't think anyone knows why BPS rated the rods that way. What they call a "fast" fishes like a moderate, or moderate+.  The "extra fast" fishes like a moderate-fast.  These are cranking rods for sure...

Picked up a few quatum rods that were on sale. $150 rod for $48. Cannot beat that for a budget combo to expand my arsenal. BTW rods are sold out at that price.

I like the Veritas 7' med. winch for most of my cranking. For the 10XD you might want to go with the heavy. $79.00 new on ebay.

For your budget, the St. Croix Premier in the PC70MHM is a great premium rod for cranking. The Moderate action is a big help with treble hook lures, and the St. Croix is legendary!

if your not looking to spend a ton of money a BPS cranking stick or an abu garcia veritas winch rod. i used both extensively over the summer and was happy with both.
