Super User J Francho Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 Megastrike is a must have on unscented plastics, hollow frogs, and big hard and soft swimbaits (as a hooking lube) for me. Cavitron is pretty much the only buzzbait I use.
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I use Megastrike a bunch. Mostly I use it to lube up a bait to make it come through grass easier. I have landed fish on Megastriked plastics that didn't even have the hook in them before. They were just clamped down to the bait.
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I use Megastrike with different applications for different reasons. 1. On swimbaits, especially the large soft plastic baits, it helps the bait slide through grass as well as out of the fish's mouth on a hookset. 2. On jigs and slow moving baits, I feel the addition of Megastrike gives the fish something natural to "taste" when they pick it up. I put it on ALL my jig trailers and Tx rigged worms. 3. The biggest help that Megastrike gives ME is confidence that I am doing another thing right. If you do enough things right, success will follow. Anyone who has ever fished with me will tell you that Megastrike has a permanent spot in my boat. There is always one bottle on the deck somewhere and at least two more in the front pouch of the tackle bag. Between Megastrike and JJ's (when I need some color, too) I don't use any other scent products. Wayne
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 Honesty, i have never used them. To be perfectly honest i was at BPS in Pearland Texas last thursday and was going to try some but I could not find it on the shelf. i have always used Bang (Craw) and have had good luck with it. It just hit me to try your product but could not find it. i went ahead and purchased the Bang. SOOO I cannot commit either way as to whether it is any better than the rest. FYI, I am not looking for a handout. if you can tell me anywhere in the houston area to get it I will try it the next time. Jack
Super User Hammer 4 Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 Megastrike on my soft swimbaits, and all plastic's. The scent on the swimbaits, helps slide through weeds, and I feel makes the bait easier for LMB to hold onto. It keeps my plastic's and soft baits soft, and adds a tad more action on some of them. Oh I use it on any baits with skirts too.
Bobby Uhrig Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 I would like to reiterate that we are trying to find out why anglers dont use them-Keep them coming.
jdw174 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I've never seen any of your products in any of the local tackleshops. I do use the Cavitron BB though.
airborne_angler Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I use MegaStrike attractant and find it builds confidence for me. If I dont have it with me,or cant find it in my tackle bag,my confidence goes way down. I just recently got a bag of the Megastrike Stick baits but havent tried it yet,im working on using up my other stickbaits first.
shootermcbob Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 megastrike for soft plastics...one tube lasts a long time. Also, I use cavitron buzzbaits. Have not tried your new spinnerbaits, only because I have not seen them in the local stores or the cabelas I visit. Come to think of it, I have not seen either the cavitron buzzbaits, or your spinnerbaits at Cabelas?
NateFollmer Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Ok I'll be your 'don't use it' response I have never used a MegaStrike product. Honestly, it is only because I usually buy my products at stores and none of the stores around here carry any MegaStrike products. I do buy online, but only from the companies I am involved with (Field/Pro Staff). I was never a big scent user, so I never really had an interest in using the scent. Could I change my mind? Probably, but every time I go to buy any scent, I always think it could be money better spent on a lure or more hooks etc... As far as the jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, etc... Again, no one carries them in my area. The soft plastics line - They just came out and I haven't got a chance to really look at them yet. Don't know if I was much help, but there's my answer
Quillback Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I don't use it, I'm not convinced scents make a difference.Â
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I don't use the Cavitron because I can't get it in a 1/2 oz version and I also can't get one with a clacker on it. Personally, I prefer both those characteristics in a buzzbait. I have used the Shake E2 jigs with some success, but I find Tru Tungsten jigheads smaller and less obtrusive to fish. The less unnatural feeling things a fish feels, the better. I am partial to Booyah Baby boo jigs based solely on their head design. I feel it comes through "things" better. There ya go.  Wayne
Nibbles Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I don't use the stuff in the tube because I haven't gotten to the point where I feel like I need it yet. I will probably look more into it once I start losing bass because they are nibbling on my baits and not hitting them. Currently, I've only ever lost bass after feeling a tap on the line due to shoddy leader-tying on my part or just not keeping enough tension on the line. If I were fishing in a tournament and my partner offered me some, I sure as heck wouldn't say no though. I'm sure there is something to the product that makes bass hold on to the bait longer. I haven't gotten around to trying the new injected plastics yet. Probably because I blew a couple hundred bucks on a couple of TD Fuegos priced too low to pass up. My bait monkey is satisfied... for now. ;D I'll probably check tackle warehouse out for them in a week or so. I love their free shipping.Â
Stasher1 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I have a Cavitron buzzbait, but have only used it once with no success. It's most likely my fault, though, not the lure's. I live about 15 miles from the Atlanta BPS, so that's where I typically buy my lures and terminal tackle. Once or twice a year I order from TW, or ***, but that's just to replenish my stock of things that BPS doesn't carry. While I'm sure your products are well made, if they're not on the shelf at my local BPS, they'll probably never find their way into my tackle bag. The only scents I've ever used are the Yum ones in the spray bottle, and they didn't seem to make a difference so I stopped using them after a couple trips. I honestly haven't felt the need to try any others.
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I use your scent and like it. I tried your Evoulution jigs and did not care for them. If you want an honest opinion...........I did not like the way they came through the weedy, and/or wood cover I fish. Also no rattle band. There are times I like to fish a jig with a rattle, and times I don't, but I want the opition to add/remove them. I have a lot of confidence in the jigs I fish, and yours just didn't do it for me.
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I first started using MegaStrike on GYCB soft plastics. The combination dramatically changed my fishing world. Part of the success attributed to this product is lubrication. Another is that fish generally hold the bait longer. After fishing the 3/8 oz Cavitron (black on black) I threw my other buzzbaits away. The lure makes a unique chirping sound, produces an impressive bubble wake and comes up on plane almost immediately. The Cavitron can be fished at any speed, but really shines with a sloooooooow retrieve. Shake2 jig heads and Evolution II jigs are designed to consistantly hold the trailer in a "stand up" position. Bobby has replaced the original bait holder with a spiral wire on the New Pro Series that works beautifully. The new Strike Back spinnerbait features a jointed head which allows the tail section of the bait to swing freely, 180*. All components are top notch. I have not fished all of the MegaStrike soft plastics, but the MegaBug is awesome! Perfect for flipping (weighted or weightless), T-rigged or C-rigged. This bait has already become a big producer for me. Availability? Direct, TW or a number of other retailers. 8-)
Super User Lund Explorer Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 Quite simply, because you don't market anything I use a lot of. A normal day of fishing for me starts with topwater and then gravitates towards throwing T-Rigs, Jigs(for worms, or tubes), and a dropshot rig. Also most of my soft plastics are power baits, which seem to work fine without having to add anything else. Spinnerbaits and Jig-n-Pig type lures work, but we have so many of those darn pike around here, I shy away from throwing things I don't want to have bitten off. Now that I see that you're adding a soft plastics line, I'm sure I'll be interested in trying some out next spring. So for me right now, I guess the bait monkey has had me pointed at my old standbys. Heck, I didn't really start fishing a senko type bait until just last year. One last thing. I have visited your website several times, just like the rest of the sponsors here. Your products seem like quality stuff, and you've gotten good reviews from many here, it just doesn't fit my needs right now. Good Luck!
Bobby Uhrig Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 This is the responses I wanted to hear. I want to know-Keep it comming. this is how we learn--I want all of the criticisms also. This is how we build a better company for the consumer.
airborne_angler Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The only place I have seen Megastrike products (Attractant/Cavitron Buzzbaits) is at Sportsmans Warehouse.
Super User fishfordollars Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 If I can't see it and put my hands on it I'm probably not going to buy it. 90% of my tackle purchases are impulse decisions.
brushhoggin Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 i will always have a tube for lubrication purposes. it makes a huge difference for me and i couldn't fish without it. i don't use it as an attractant however. Â
Primus Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I have not used any of your products to date. Fish Attractant- I've always used Smelly Jelly prior to my becoming aware of your product, I've always been satisfied with it and never thought about trying anything else. I have seen it locally at tackle shops in our area. I actually do have 1 or 2 Cavitron buzzbaits that I've barely used due to the fact that I've gotten away from buzzbaits the last couple of years. This is likely due the fact that I fish mostly clear water and I'm more confident throwing lures like the Zoom Horney Toad or wake cranks. I will break out the buzzbaits on occasion if working muddy or stained water. That said I know buzzbaits will work on occasion in clear water I just got of the habit of using them as much as once did. Spinnerbaits- A few years ago I tried the S.O.B. Mini Me Spinnerbaits and that was it for me. It became my bread & butter spinnerbait because I could order the blades in any size that I want, I like the weight on the hook design and I'm a big fan of how they bend the wire making the spinnerbait more compact for the clearwater lakes that I fish. I have used the Rattlehead spinnerbaits for night fishing because I think that he extra noise is an asset at night. Also, Spinnerbaits have lost some of my on the water time due to baits like the R.I. Skinny Dipper, Pro Swimbaits hollow body, swimjigs and again to the skinny water cranks that I'm now so fond of. Crankbaits have become my go to the last couple of years and I try to use them in as many situations as I can. Regarding your spinnerbait I'm confident that your strike back system has merit but I rarely lose a fish on spinnerbits as it is so it wasn't a big selling point to me, also your bait has the full wire frame which I don't use very much anymore and it's likely that the blades are going to bigger than what I usually fish with so I would have to change them out to my liking. (My favorite combo is a tandem # 4 Willow/ # 2 Colorado) and sometimes a single # 4 or 4-1/2 Willow or single Colorado for Night fishing. Jigs - I saw the jigs at a tackle shop when they first came out, the design didn't look like it would come through weeds as cleanly as the designs I typically fish and I also wasn't impressed with the way the skirts were laid out. Soft Plastics- I used to try a lot of the different soft plastics that came out and would often buy different brands that offer a certain design and ultimately settle on one brand. As an example I use the Yamamoto Senko as my go to stickworm, occasionally using a Yum Dinger when I want a slower fall or using the 3" size on a small jighead. I'm sure there are other brands out there that will probably work but I've simplified to these 2 choices and would be reluctant to try another brand. I've also given away a lot of soft baits the last year or so because I've found the baits and brands, colors that I'm confident in and I'm trying to simplify that aspect of my fishing. That said I'm open to trying a new soft plastic shape design but not someone else's version of a Baby Brush Hog/ Senko etc unless I can be convinced that it's superior to what I'm using and not another " me too " bait. Regarding the Megastrike soft baits I'm not familiar with them, I see them listed on your webpage but couldn't find any descriptions and pictures.
Super User Shane J Posted August 23, 2010 Super User Posted August 23, 2010 I use the Mega Strike attractant, and have been very happy with it. I feel it definitely improves my hookup percentage, but don't use it as an "attractant". Other than that, I do own 4 or 5 Cavitrons, that I also ordered from TW along with the tubes of MS. I like the buzzbaits, but hardly ever use them, and will probably never try out the soft baits, jigs, or spinnerbaits, because I have tons of that stuff, and since they are not sold in any local stores, I wouldn't be inclined to order them. I think you have good products and fair pricing, but poor availability is killing a lot of potential sales.
