I have made friends with many of my new neighbors. I like to know the parents of the little angels playing with my little angel. Well there is always one bad apple in the bunch.

My son was playing with his newest best friend and the other boy yelled at him. My son yelled back at him and they began yelling at each other. The parent on duty broke it up and everyone went about their business. A few minutes later the other boy runs up and shoves my son off the elevated walking log thing. My son jumps up and promptly tackles the boy. Again they are broken up and we get their as the other boy runs home crying. I think its fair. Both kids are crying no one has hurt anything other than their ego. So he gets talked to about what happened and sent back out to play. About ten minutes later their is a knock on the door. I'm sitting on my deck enjoying a coke on the rocks. When all of a sudden I here some foreigner yelling at my wife in a Hindi accent. I'm sorry you don't raise your voice to my old lady. I don't do it, and I expect the same courtesy from others. My wife is straight up laying in to this poor fella. I get up out of my chair and announce my presence with a low "what's the problem out here?" This fools jowl drops to the ground. Apparently this cheap button down wearing nerd wasn't expecting a burly 6ft 2in man to come out to play. I again asked what seemed to be the problem, and advised him to apologize to my wife for raising his voice. Well he apologized and launched into me about his precious little boy getting pushed. I told him what had happened and told him to ask the other parents if he ain't believe me. Then this fool had the gall to scoff at me! Can you believe that!?! He actually scoffed at me! I promptly told him he can believe what he wants to and should spend more time with his son then working at the gas station they own. (I'm not being racist, they really do own the gas station down the street. They have for years too. I know I patronize them sometimes.) Maybe then his boy would behave like a civilized person and not some third world heathen. We exchanged words for a few more minutes. (Not yelling mind you) when out of the blue my boy and his come walking up holding hands. Talking about they are friends again and blah blah blah. Then off they go back to the playground. We'll needless to say we were both speechless about this turn of events. I stared him down and said maybe we should go back to what we were doing and just forget about our little meeting on the threshold of my apartment. He agreed and we went our separate ways with nary a word to one another.

A little while later I was on my deck sipping a doctor pepper on the rocks. When the nerd pulled back into the parking lot. He got to the door to the hallway and said hello and waved to me. I nodded and waved back.

I think I just made a new friend! Ain't it funny how life works?

I really think you need to address that soft drink addiction before you develop diabetes.

Ahh to be a kid again, when you could tackle and scuffle with someone for being a jerk and nobody got in trouble.

Coke on the rocks with a Dr. Pepper chaser?   You really like living on the edge.

This is no doubt sexist and perhaps a little racist but I wouldn't be surprised if your neighbor's wife browbeat him into coming over (my girlfriend is Indian so I know a little of which I speak).

I'm gonna have to agree with ya. He didn't seem to enthusiastic about being there.
