Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 Alright I will come out and admit it. Apple has done a good job with their iPhone. My 82 year old grandmom has a 4s. She can text, facebook, and do whatever else via this phone. Apple has put out a product that an 82 year old can operate flawlessly. She is so excited to be able to keep up with The Family and her friends around the country. It has brought her so much joy. That I have decided to give Apple a try with a 5 or 5s. I figure what have I got to lose? Ill still have my S3 if I don't like the phone. Us if iOS gets on my nerves I can jailbreak it and install androids OS on the device. Well lets see where this new adventure takes me. Quote

Well lets see where this new adventure takes me. If I may suggest, go for the 5s if you can. The technology, A7 chip benchmarks are rather amazing. Don't have one myself, just got a 5 this summer. But the 5s is much more prepared for the future with 64 bit chip, the M7 motion processor, etc. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 People think iPhone copying droid with some of their features. What they failed realized is that Apple's software are design to be user friendly. Droid has complications. Case in point, my mother can't use her droid without calling me every day with questions. Your grandmother can use an iPhone better than my mom uses her droid.... Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 Jailbreaking an iPhone isn't worth it, just keep your droid. I will also echo the comment of getting the 5s. I am about to upgrade mine and will be getting the 5s myself. Quote

What's the point in spending the insane amounts of money on one if you can't have fun with it? It enables you to remove bloatware and play with different OS's. It also opens the door for other neat tricks too. Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 22, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 22, 2013 yeah that is true but the people i know who have unlocked their iPhone have had a bunch of problems and I believe it voids your warranty too.Does with android phones too.Long as you do it correctly it should work flawlessly. Then again with my recent spate of bad luck the dang phone will probably explode in my hand. Still though. I'm ready for a change. I buy out my Verizon contract and switch to their Edge plan in October. Then I get to upgrade every 6months, if I want. (Which I already do every year anyway) I just end up paying 700 bucks dor a new phone now. I intend to keep my S3 as well. My S3 currently runs faster and more efficiently than an S4. Plus the battery now last forever and a day. Whether I jailbreak or not is still in the air. It all depends how I like the new iOS. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 I think you be blown away how cool and simple iOS7 is. Quote
kingkong85 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 iOS is more advanced than the android's os. That was when I had the iphone 4 with the latest iOS and with & without the jailbreak. Now owning the Samsung note 2, andriod's os suits my needs better without rooting my phone. It would be nice to have both but I guess I can't have everything in 1. On another note, I wasn't impressed with the iphone 5 so that's what made me switch to android. Technology on the andriod phones are way better. At the time, android phones had a faster processor, more mega pixels for the rear camera, more camera & video settings, screen is bigger and I'm not limited to doing stuff. To sum it up, andriod phones are better in technology and iphones has an advanced operating system that android's os can't compare to. Just my 2 cents. Can you really jailbreak an iphone and install android's os? Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted September 23, 2013 Author Super User Posted September 23, 2013 Dang it Kingkong85. Now you got me to thinking. If I can install android to iPhone. I wander if I can install iOS to an Android phone. Guess I know what I'm doing with my free time now. I'm actually kind of excited to see if it will work. I think its gonna be a pain to do it, but hopefully no harder than android to apple. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 Try iOS and you won't be sorry. Join the dark side!!! iOS is very simple to use... The only pitfall of Apple product is if you break them it can be pricey if you aren't covered with Applecare or by standard warranty. All phones are destructible and prone to hardware failure, it just Apple more expensive to fix and could be a hassle to replace. Since you're located in Birmingham there is an Apple store you can you get it swap out there. Phone carriers do not replace or fix iPhone, you have go through Apple. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 iPhone=Smartest dumb phone you'll ever find Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 Since you don't own an iphone yet get the 5s. I'll warn you that the battery life SUCKS! Everyone I know has this complaint. Mines been unplugged for 3hrs and barely been used and I'm already at 70% I'll have to charge it a bit by 9-10pm or it'll die by the time I'm ready for bed. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 Now 56% less then an hour later. Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted September 24, 2013 Super User Posted September 24, 2013 Nope nothing but surf the web or Facebook. Everything is turned off. Wifi, location services, brightness at 32,clear all things after I'm done. It's terrible! I have the 5 also. My charging habits are good. I've had multiple people complain about this. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 24, 2013 Super User Posted September 24, 2013 I have the 5 I took it off the charger around midnight (it was charged and I woke up and checked emails) it's at 19% now. Try downloading battery doctor! It's free and it will tell you what is using the most of your battery and will give you tips on extending your battery life. It will also charge the battery in a different way. Delete it if you don't like it Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted September 24, 2013 Super User Posted September 24, 2013 I have it. It made a small difference but not much. Quote
