Super User bigbill Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 Your still not catching fish on spinnerbaits? Slow them down till there out of your sight in the water. Quote

There are more to it than, using the same lure and watching the save video. Quote
Hattrick7 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 I think with spinners you need to find what depth the strike zone is at. Maybe it's closer to the surface, mid column or towards the bottom. I read somewhere that baitfish typically run with the current so casting downwind and retrieving upwards wouldn't be the typical pattern. Try casting more into the wind and retrieving as would be the more normal route of baitfish. I'm no expert by any means. There's some good articles if you google it. I do like how they slam the bait. Keep at it and good luck! Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 5, 2013 Super User Posted October 5, 2013 bass.jpgbass.jpgbass.jpg bass.jpgbass.jpg Agreed no results I have zero confidence the only bite I got was from this color a chart. purple and white with gold bladesbass.jpg Why did you post the same picture 6 times? Ask yourself this question. How pressured is the spot you were fishing? Spinnerbaits get thrown by almost everyone. Did you try something different? Some days the bite is on with them and other days its not. Quote
einscodek Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 No confidence? You gotta know when to throw spinnerbaits esp when the place you go is pressured by spinnerbait-psychos. Where you got pressure, its even more important to use them right and at the right time else you lose confidence. The place I fish everyone and their grandma throws em so I put them away until the time is right. For example, last trip I went, I was doin some fish throwin' topwater frogs & stickbait.. then the wind started kickin up and the current shifted.. then the rains started in light and got heavier.. what lttle topwater bite .. now gone I put that topwater away and went to the feeder creek area where the wind was blowin up the creek meanwhile the rain causing the creek to flow current into the lake.. perfect. The waves and rain robbed me of the topwater my fav but disguises me so I went fishin subsurface with a white/chartruse spinnerbait willow leaves bream trailer.. nailed a nice big 20" 4lb'der after a few casts in the storm .. 4lbs is nice for up here in the north. Waves crashin and rain droppin late in the day low light dont let the fish concentrate on a crazy lookin spinnerbait.. nice visible colors floating by and blades flashin.. slam! Fish dont get a chance to scrutinize. Earlier on, I kept those spinnerbaits in the box.. when conditions present themselves, toss them out there.. trust me they nail fish when the time is right.. and its fall season.. its spinnerbait season buddy! Gotta also know what kind of spinnerbait combos to use as well (the blades, skirts, trailer) Also, I've never nailed spinnerbait fish on steady retrieves..maybe someone else has but I NEVER did.. One of my favorite things to do is bangin them off structures .. many times, it gets nailed right after.. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted October 8, 2013 Super User Posted October 8, 2013 Watching a video will really do nothing in and of itself to make fish bite-assuming there are even fish where you cast. There are a LOT of factors involved in choosing where and how you are going to fish and spinnerbaits are just a single tool in one's arsenal. Not every tool is appropriate OR is going to work all the time (I really haven't had that much luck with them myself this year-but when I did, it was phenomenal). You have to fish the way the fish want it and NOT how you want to. You don't have to ever use a spinnerbait if you don't want to (some guys never do) but don't discount them just because you had a bad day (or even a bad season) with them. P.S., On some days you can practically sell your soul to the devil and you it still won't get fish to bite even the very best lure choice. Quote
merc1997 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 spinner baits, like any fishing tool, have their place. there are definitely times that a spinner bait is the right tool to throw. when bass are foraging on shad, which our fall season is a great time, spinner baits many times would be a good choice. of course, as with any other lure we might choose to try, we have to be throwing it in front of bass to have a chance at catching them. getting a good handle on seasonal patterns will help eliminate water. tom young has produced a very useful tool called a cosmic clock. i would suggest looking that up and study it. it will help any of us with seasonal patterns. bo Quote
michang5 Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I went out Monday morning on small pond I've been fishing and threw my first spinnerbait ever. I picked up a War Eagle 1/4oz chartreuse/white with double willow blades at Walmart on a whim Saturday morning. Cold front rolled in Saturday afternoon. I got to the water around 7:45am. Cast #1 = strike, but fish spit the hook. Cast #3 = pulled in a 1.5 pounder. Cast #4 = pulled in a 1.75 pounder. Never had such luck. I was so excited. But just as quickly as it started, it stopped. From 7:55 - 9:30 there was nothing — even after switching to a Chatterbait and later a fluke. Even went back later that afternoon. After 10 minutes, one hit the War Eagle, but spit the hook. A bit later I pulled in a 1.25 pounder. Then nothing for the next 50-60 minutes. Easy come... easy go... Quote
