So I have decided to get myself a fishing kayak instead of putting a lot of extra funds into a bass boat.  This should hold me over for a good while and since I usually fish alone or on my buddies boat it just seems more practical all the way around.  I was curious as to whether you other yakkers prefered to fish standing or sitting?  I think I have narrowed my choice down to Wilderness Ride 115 x or the 135, both should handle both well so it is just a curiosity of mine.  Happy fishing!

I fish from a 135 with the high seat.  I find myself sitting way more than standing.  I will stand to stretch out but usually end up sitting back down to fish.  The kayak is plenty stable to stand in but I'm not completely comfortable fishing that way.  Plus, it's hard to paddle while standing up and fishing.  I highly recommend the elevated seat for the Rides.

sitting ....  in a VERY comfortable high back seat, with a VERY comfortable life jacket with a high back made for kayaking

Standing mostly.  I do like to sit "side saddle" on a drift, with my feet in the water on a hot day.

I do both sitting and standing. I can paddle either way, but when my trolling motor is hooked up I sit.

If I'm sitting and hook a bass, I like to stand and fight it.

I have my Native Ultimate seat modded to sit on the gunnels, so I'm up quite high. Never a fear of tipping. Enjoy it so much more than being down lower.

Have you checked out the new Native Slayer? Beast.

Sitting. But i am working on my balance for standing.

I was wondering how stabile do you feel with your elevated seat if the wind picks up while your out? A stupid newbie question but do guys with elevated seats bring their regular stock seats with them and swap them out in case they get caught out in a front?  I apologize for straying a bit.

Stability is relative to three primary factors.

1. The kayak's primary and secondary stability

2. The person's physical capacity for maintaining balance

3. The motion or behavior of the water current and wave action

For me, I prefer to stand for topwater, flipping/pitching and sight casting. For anything else, sitting.

Depends on the boat really.  I have a commander and i took out the low seat and solely use the captain's perch.  I stand a lot of the time but if it is windy it makes it a little harder to keep my position.  Having a raised seat position makes a world of difference and doesn't makes standing quite as big of a deal as the days of old when you were sitting at the level of the water.

I've got a mirage drive hobie, so sitting for sure.

I'm near Jackson, so I've been out in those boats too. I like their elevated seating.  The newest 10' looks awesome.

Hook1 is near me too.  Wilderness look good.

I just can't get away from Mirage Drive.

The mirage is nice but i can't pull the trigger on a $3000 kayak lol... I have been intrigued by the new Jackson big rig as well. I'm 6'2 240 lbs and like how comfy it looks as well as the rod storage on the sides of the yak... Decisions decisions

I got mine with the wife.  (I mean it's really hers)  Heh.  You're too far away to go to Hook1 in Hendersonville often, but I went there a few months ago and he had a Angler Mirage drive for 1000 bucks on consignment.  I went back to buy it and it was gone.  Check craigslist and LSN.

Also, if you come up to Center Hill/Caney Fork - They have demo days from Jackson at Big Rock Market.  I think they are having one soon.  You could try out whatever.  They also have used stuff for sale.

I stand for pitching and top water. I think some people stand more then they thought they would but most stand less. I only stand when anchored and really working cover or a flat.

I honestly like sitting.  Sure, you can see better when you're standing but also the fish can see you too-  Probably better.  I try to not even raise my arms up above my shoulders if I can avoid it.  I've definitely spooked fish nearby from moving around before and I hate myself every time I let it happen haha

I do both. Nut maily depends on the body of water I am on. If I am floating a moving river I sit and if I need to streatch I get out and wade. If flat water its a toss up what I do. Just depends on my mood. The rides are super stable in my opinion. Due to the hull design of the rides I can stand with no issue and I can even put my foot up on the side without issue of tipping. I have the Ride 115 and use the elivated seat most of the time. Depending on what type of water you will be fishing mostly will depend on what length. for mainly fishing smaller water the 115 will be better. For mainly bigger water like big lakes, bays, and the ocean the longer will be better. The shorter it is the easier it is to get into tight spots and to turn. The longer it is the straighter it will track and the faster you can make it go.
