Ultra vibes and Ol Monsters are some of the best worms Zoom makes. You'll like them. The Silver Minnow is a classic design. It still produces just as much today as it did in years past.

Those dead ringers are pretty good also, eh Eric? :)

airborne_angler,

The 10" ol monster and 8" dead ringer are my two worm fishing staples. I'll have a pack of each on the deck with me when fishing worms. The dead ringer has a larger profile with ridges. It displaces more water and has a slower sink rate. The ol monster has a sleeker profile and a faster sink rate. I let the fish tell me which one they prefer, but between those two I can usually get something going.

I'd say half the fish I've got over 4lbs this year have been on the ol monster.

I've gone through about three packs since you kicked my butt that day at Lox.

With so many other options , it surprises me that Zoom

plastics remain so popular. I don't own any and haven't

fished one in more than a decade.

:)

they remain popular beacuse they produce and are a great value. Since its been so long, maybe you should pick up a bag or two and see what all the rage is about ;D

The colors and styles are endless and they catch fish. I like the fact that they have not been followers and started adding scent like everyone else. This allows you to use whatever scent you please. Personally I think the whole rage tail line is overhyped. Not saying they dont catch fish just think they are overated in my opinion. I actually prefer the perfect plastic line. the SK game hawg is my favorite hog style bait. Everything else is zoom hands down.

Well, when I was fishing Zoom plastics in the '90s, I caught

a few bass, too. However, soft plastics didn't seem to be big

producers for me. In 1997 I went to a seminar at a Mid-South

Outdoors event. It was there I was introduced to the Senko.

Over the years I have experimented with other brands, most

notably Roboworms, Larew, Gitzit, Slug-Go, Mizmo, Net Baits

and Micro Munch Tackle.  More recently, Rage Tail, MegaStrike,

Reaction Innovations and Lake Fork Tackle. Some other brands

didn't work out, but I still experiment and will give something

new a try (Keitech and Jackall come to mind).

The point is, there are lots of innovative companies out

there and I don't think Zoom is one of them. When I left

that brand, my world changed. I will never go back.

I'd be willing to bet there are more fish caught on a trickworm than any other soft bait out there. There is not much innovation to a trick worm. I dont know to each his own thats what makes this sport so fun. I guess its all a matter of what you have confidence in. When i throw a U-tale,Ole Monster, trick, finesse, worm I know i'm getting bit.

I think the #1 soft plastic in the world is still a Senko.

If we included knock-offs the margin between #1 and

#2 would triple or quadruple.

Roadwarrior I have to disagree with you about Zoom not being innovatve, the Brush Hog & Baby Brush Hog have been imitated by almost every soft bait manufacturer out there simply because this design flat out catches fish.

The Zoom Super Fluke is another innovative bait style though I will give props to the Sluggo as well, the Super Fluke was not another " me too" bait.

The Zoom Horney toad is another trendsetter and a very productive bait that I overlooked earlier.

I'm not saying Zoom is the only game in town but there is a valid reason for their success and Zoom products have also been utilized by national touring pro's who have cashed a lot of checks using their products. I respect your opinions and contributions to this forum but I respectfully disagree with your take on Zoom baits.

No doubt! I think Zoom is the #1 brand in terms

of sales. The baits catch tons of bass, durable

and well priced.

When I first started using plastics, Zoom was just about all I used. In the last few years Netbait, Reaction Innovations, SK Rage Anacondas, and some BPS house brands (Stick-os primarily) have taken a place in my rotation. I still use Zoom Trickworms, finesse worms, Ole Monsters, and 6 or 8" lizards regularly. A Finesse or Trickworm on a shakyhead will almost always be on deck. My biggest fish this year was on a Trickworm...

im young but ive grown up using zoom and have had serious success

Overall they are probably the favorite and number one selling soft plastic. They have a bait for every purpose and some are simply the best, their lizards are untouchable. They are my second favorite line of soft baits with Berkly being first. I wonder if Zoom is number one in sales?

Do you think maybe that seminar had something to do with that? I still maintain you don't need expensive baits to catch bass, it is all about the guy behind the reel.

RW I don't think I made my point very well. What I mean is . Could it be the knowledge of fishing soft baits in general that you learned that has made you a better fisherman? Maybe you are giving too much credit to the Senko and not enough to your skills.

No, it was the bait: immediate success. Over the years

there have been many Magic Lures. The original floating

Rapala is the first I remember. Others might include the

Lucky 13, Jitterbug, Slug-Go, Creme plastic worm, Gitzit,

Spook and Rat-L-Trap. These were game changers when

they were first introduced.

Back on topic...I probably should have stayed away from

this thread. Obviously, Zoom plastics are very popular, well

priced and effective. The line of baits is simply not my preferred

brand.

I understand your confidence in the Senko.

Zoom plastics are some of the best, if not the best. Right there with Yamamoto.

The thing that separates the fluke from the sluggo is the fluke sinks faster, casts further, and is more weedless.

That's not to say I don't love the sluggo though. It is better than the fluke for shallow water or when bass are nearer the top.

Zoom's lizards and worms catch fish after fish for me though as well.

They're ok, I suppose, but definitely not my favorite brand or best producer. The only Zoom products I use now are the Trick Worm and occasionally a Fluke...and I could probably do without the Fluke.  ;D

Many different brands including zoom holds certain favorite baits in my box. It's just as good as many other baits out there, but more readily available.

Zoom is the only brand plastics I use except for the original senko.  Trick worm is what Im throwing 98% of the time Im fishing.  There are other innovative brands out there but they are very hard to come by in my area and I prefer to see a bait in hand before Im happy ordering over the net.  Zoom is also the most reasonably priced soft plastics.
