pbizzle Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Are these any good? I know that they aren't Spro frogs but if they're as good as most of the H2O Xpress lures they can't be bad. Quote
michang5 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 I picked up two Tiny Toads a few weeks ago. One of them would not compress very well, and so little of the hooks were exposed. It seemed like the weight was getting in the way or the hooks were pointing lower to start. And the exterior seemed scratched up from the hooks. This was all fresh, out of the box. The other one (same model, just different color) didn't have these problems. So I returned the weird one. The one I kept hasn't produced for me. It seems to take in water, sinks and has to be squeezed out every so often. And while I've been skunked several times using this white/green Tiny Toad, I've caught several bass using a white/green Scum Frog. Throwing in the same locations, same day, same action. On a separate note, it's apples to oranges when comparing the Tiny Toad to a Koppers Live Target mini frog. The Koppers looks, feels, compresses tons better than the H2O. I have had a few fish splash the Koppers, but haven't landed any yet. I don't use it as much because it's black. Just my experience. I won't be buying any more. Quote

I see what you're saying but you're comparing it to a $10-12 frog, which is what I was trying to keep away from. I do like Spro frogs, but was wondering how these would be as a "back up" frog. Looks like I'm keeping with the pad crashers. Quote
michang5 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Actually most of my success and comparisons have been with the Scum Frogs, which can be purchased for under $5 from Dick's. I would much rather buy more Scum Frogs (and I have) than spend comparable money on the H2O. But, yes, comparing the them to the Koppers isn't a fair fight, even though the ones I've been buying are in the $8-9 range, I think (also at Dick's -- one was on sale). Quote

That's my local tackle store price. I like scum frogs but haven't been using them that much for some reason. Quote
basshole8190 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 i use the bigger size frogs from time to time. the ultimate hollow belly frog is what its called i think. i have the sexy shad and bluegill colors and i think redear or shellcracker is the other color. they produce fish for me. They arent the softest frogs out there but i think there are harder hollow belly frogs out there. I'd say theyve caught me as many as the spro frogs, but the pad crasher is my favorite as its affordable, soft, and the hook up ratio seems to be slightly better than average with my other frogs. My personal favorite is the popping frog from spro tho. I cant keep fish off of it. Quote

basshole8190 Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Takes a touch more finesse than other frogs to get it to walk because it sits lower than other frogs in the water Quote
pbizzle Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Takes a touch more finesse than other frogs to get it to walk because it sits lower than other frogs in the water Ok. It hops like a champ but I've had a hard time walking it. Thanks. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 21, 2013 Global Moderator Posted September 21, 2013 I have the tiny one and like it really well. It casts surprisingly well for how small it is and I have yet to miss a fish with it. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 21, 2013 Super User Posted September 21, 2013 I've used the larger one all with no problems Quote
pbizzle Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 I just picked up the ultimate hollow body frog in black and blue. I trimmed down the legs and it hops really well, but it's not so hot when you try to walk it. I like it. Quote
bgraham91 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I bought 2 on clearace last weekend and think I've caught 3 bass on them this past week. But I do agree with michang5 on the frog taking in water. You've got to keep it going or else it will sink really quick. Now my dad was using the ultimate hollow body frog and it had no prob. But for only 2.50 it did produce me one good fish last Wednesday. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted September 23, 2013 Super User Posted September 23, 2013 I think they're about middle of the road for frogs. WAYYYY better than the Bass Pro Brand, but obviously not as good as a live target. For me though I'd prefer to spend about 1 more dollar and get a Booyah Pad Crasher only because they're so much softer and easier to compress. I actually prefer the pad crasher to the spro or live target simply based on price and durability. Quote
