NC_Bass6 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 i fish mostly smaller bodies of water and was looking for ways to get off the shore. The best option i found was a belly boat. before i went out and bougtht one i wanted to see if anyone has or had fished in one and what they thought about the experience. The things i was concerned about were the storage space, stability, and casting ability. Quote
Jim Mac Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Don't forget about when the water is cold. Have you thought about a kayak? Fishing out of a kayak is a lot of fun. Quote
Bladesmith, Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I used a belly boat when I was younger. I finally got rid of it after a water moccasin tried to climb up on it with me. Casting was no problem but the snakes were. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted September 20, 2013 Super User Posted September 20, 2013 ODC 420 You will also need: stocking foot waders, scuba fins AND PFD. Although not as often, I enjoy my time fishing from my ODC 420 more than I do from my 16' aluminum boat, canoe or wading! Playing a LARGE fish (bass, musky, cat or carp) with no tether to solid earth is a true rush!!! oe Quote
BassinBee Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 In years past I have used one while fishing some small ponds. I moved onto the inflatable pontoons and most recently a new to us (used) bass boat. I still have mine hanging in the garage. If you want to give one a shot I'll sell it to you cheap as I don't think I'll be using it with the new motorized boat. Dave Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 Back in the day when I was a bush hippie meat fisherman I fished out of a belly boat quite a bit. You are limited in the amount of gear that you can carry UNLESS you bring another inner tube with a basket strapped into it. You can drag that along behind you and carry plenty of lures, extra rods, beer & water, what have you. It is just an extra trip or two from your car where you unload to the waters edge (and back at the end of the day). I don't fish out of a belly boat anymore. Quote
TheMightyQuinn Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I fish out of a belly boat all the time. I have mind rigged up so I can bring 3 rod. My tube also has a mesh netting in the back that I put an oversized 3700 waterproof box in. Plus, I have 4 large pockets (2 on each side) to store stuff in. Needless to say I have more than enough room to pack stuff. Not to mention 1 pocket on my waders and 2 pockets on my PDF. Quote
