doyle8218 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 i am always reading about only use 15lb mono on topwater, 6-8lb floro on drop shots, 50lb braid on frogs..... I only carry one pole. isn't ok to use braid as the main line and just change a 6ft leader to the situation? thanks for any help!! Quote
5dollarsplash Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 If I only carried one pole that's exactly how I'd do it. Probably with 30lb braid if it's a baitcaster. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 20, 2013 Super User Posted September 20, 2013 This will cover the vast majority of your fishing: Spinning gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 (11.9 lb breaking strength) Baitcasting tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 (19.5 lb breaking strength) Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 20, 2013 Super User Posted September 20, 2013 For what it's worth, I use 15# braid, without leader, for everything. I can't provide an actual number, but I'm pretty sure that my Power Pro has breaking strength considerably higher than the stated 15#. Quote
doyle8218 Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Marty, Do you use a leader for deep water baits of drop shots? Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 21, 2013 Super User Posted September 21, 2013 Marty, Do you use a leader for deep water baits of drop shots? Don't ever use a leader. I'm also a shallow water angler and seldom fish deep water. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 22, 2013 Super User Posted September 22, 2013 Didn't state whether it's a b/c or spinning. I fish only spinning, I prefer braid either 10 or 15# and both are thinner than 6# mono or copoly, stronger with less memory. I always use a leader regardless of technique or lure type, leaders can be change in a matter of seconds. Quote
