A Silver Spring man is scheduled to appear in Annapolis District Court on November 15 on charges he and three companions caught more than 200 undersized striped bass.
Natural Resources Police (NRP) Officer Jeff Beshore was on patrol at Sandy Point State Park on Aug. 31 at 1:30 a.m., when he stopped a boat returning to the marina.
After receiving permission to check the coolers aboard the 14-foot recreational vessel, Beshore found 228 striped bass under the legal minimum of 18 inches. The officer also found about 30 pounds of white perch in the coolers. No one on the vessel had a fishing license.
Hervino Nunez-Aleman, the owner and operator of the boat, received a citation for possession of undersize striped bass.

Experience has proven to me that when an individual who is willing to so grossly over harvest under sized fish gets caught, it is Almost never their first time. 

 

Smells like more than personal use and there could be some shipping and handling involved.

 

Be nice if Law Officials could "follow the Fish" to where they were supposed to end up.  

 

I sincerely hope that Mr. Hervino Nunez-Aleman is Prosecuted to The Fullest Extent of The Law.

This stuff really gets to me. Sandy Point is a risky place to break the law too; almost hard to believe somebody would be stupid enough to poach with all the law enforcement around there. 

 

I see this all the time on the Potomac during the shad run. People keeping lots of rockfish no matter what size, and cast netting shad. 

 

Glad they got the guy.

We have problems with illegals poaching fish at the outlet of one of the power plant lakes. They throw net, snag, set line, whatever they can do to catch fish and completely disregard length and creel limits. I asked one of the park rangers out of frustration one day after watching a 6-7 pound bass get throw netted and filleted. He said they can take their gear and write citations but they keep coming back and not paying their fines because they technically don't exist in the system. I told him he needs to just start hooking everyone that doesn't have a license and maybe they'll get the message.

The white bucket crew strikes again.  Good to see they got caught this time, that kind of practice really REALLY hurts the long run.  I see it all too often around here but on a smaller scale.  Always makes me insane, and I've walked away from a few spots for good because of it.

There is a website out here in MD whose origins are about the Chesapeake Bay.  There is a thread PAGES long on this particular poacher.  Most concerned that courts have not treated these poachers with harsh enough penalties.  Hopefully the judges hammers him.  Also,  illegals and immigrants aren't the only poachers.  Plenty of locals and watermen on the bay poach as as  well.

Wow...Sandy Point State Park is like 30 min from my house and I didn't hear anything about this.  That's pretty messed up.  It says the owner of the boat is being charge with the illegal fish possession but what about the other fisherman present?  Seems to me that they should be just as accountable.  Also does anyone know what the penalty would be for something like this?  I looked and all I could find was the penalty for taking 4 or more striped bass undersized/over limit, which would only be having your license suspended for a year.  But this is way more extreme and these guys didn't have licenses anyway so what does that really matter to them?

It doesn't and that's what the sickening part is. Suspend this guys license and he'll be back out there tomorrow.

Don't believe the article indicated whether the poachers were illegal aliens or not.  The man in question received a citation, IMO he should have been taken into custody.

We had three old men here last spring caught with over 400 white bass. Limit is 15 I think.

Someone seen them and called the game wardens thank goodness. It wasn't there first day doing it from what I heard. Fishing below a dam. Judge got them pretty good I heard. They will never have another fishing license and high fines.

That was a two person boat that day one to drive away and the other to put his fingers I the holes. Ah the good ol days when you could give bad folks what they deserve and you didn't go to jail for it. Now you often get worse then they would have if you'd call the law.

It was below Cheatam Dam on Cumberland river I just didn't say.

Since I hadn't seen to many tennesseans on here.

Idiots with no morels are abundant might have been another boat load of dip sticks there to. Cause I also seem to remember hearing about something someone did there to.

Thats a problem down here too. Alot of the smaller lakes and canals get robbed by these guys. The area where I used to go 4 wheeling in bonita springs these mexicans would go out there in clusters and net up hundreds of fish and throw the ones they didnt want on the banks to die instead of back in the water. There have been a few times ive been able to get cops out, but they just make them leave like from a lake out back of brus room over here just a few weeks ago they were doing the same thing in a lake you could nearly fish out with the gear they were using.
