I been collecting old bait casting reels. I been wondering how they casted them out? Did they take line off the reel and like flip it? I just find the old fishing stuff part of the history of fishing. I have the steel telescopic fly rods and the steel bait casting rods too. Then came the plastic rods I guess I have them too. It's funny I find the early plastic lures interesting too. All the old fishing stuff needs a good home too. Does this make me a fishing equipment hoarder?

The old non-freespool baitcasters were cast just like their free-spool descendants. No buttons to push, just give it a heave and keep your hands clear of the crank. They aren't called knuckle busters for nothing.

There is a difference between a hoarder and a collector, hoarders accumulate trash, collectors accumulate treasures. Trash can become treasure when properly restored.

I guess I'm a collector.

Well, I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder, but "old' doesn't necessarily turn junk into treasure.

When my dad passed away I inherited a ton of junk and a few gold nuggets. I have a display I created

using a beautiful piece of driftwood for the base. I have original Lucky 13, Rapala, Lazy Ike and Devil

Horse to name a few. The other 50 pounds of junk was trashed.
