Super User BassinLou Posted September 18, 2013 Super User Posted September 18, 2013 Wow! I am proud of you guys. An informative Abu vs Shimano thread. Who knew. LOL Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 18, 2013 Super User Posted September 18, 2013 Are you kidding me?? Two pages and nobody is trying to start a ticking match? Shimano's better than Abu Garcia!!! sorry, somebody had to. 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted September 18, 2013 Super User Posted September 18, 2013 I know why everybody is being so nice. YA JUST WANTED TO PROVE ME WRONG!!!!...lol. Well, I think that is great! Hootie 2 Quote
thehooligan Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I prefer shimano and daiwas. Ive used abu and lews. Actually giving lews another shot, just ordered the new lews bb1 pro. Looks to be a pretty sweet reel. I would fish abu mgx's, gen2 premiers, and rockets all day long. I just prefer smaller reels, and shimano's 50 size just sits in my palm so well. Quote
baluga Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I guess we all got tired of arguing which brand is better..it get's old. Just go with what you got and try to enjoy it. 4 Quote
Super User CWB Posted September 18, 2013 Super User Posted September 18, 2013 I have Gen 1Revo STX's and Curado 200E7's. STX's seem to cast farther and retreive smoother and have a smoother drag so they do get more use. Both pretty top notch though. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 .Did I ever mention I have a thing for Japan made shimanos Quote
Greeneye8181 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 this is like asking which is better a blonde or a brunette. Everyone has an opinion then someone will chime in that they like red heads more.....they are all decent but i have had good luck with my shimanos so that is what I choose to use. My buddy likes Abu and that is pretty much all he uses and neither of us have any complaints. Then someone else will chime in they like Brazilian women (that's the spinning reel guy! lol) I prefer Shimano by far. I have a MGX that I loved when I first got it but now I've seemed to lose interest in it. I have a Shimano Metanium MG7 that is stellar and used to have a Shimano Core 50 (RIP) that was probably the best reel I've ever used. Abu isn't bad though. Quote
EvanT123 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Then someone else will chime in they like Brazilian women (that's the spinning reel guy! lol) How did you know? Lol Quote

Kevinator1 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I also use both.... Each is dedicated to a technique, or strain....... Tight Lines! Hey RM, What do you think about the Gen 3 Revo S reels? Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 It's easy I love round reels & as great as Abu's round reels are they aint even close to a Calcutta or Cardiff! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 Given 2 products fairly close in quality and performance I'd pick the company with the better customer service. 1 Quote

Khong Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Both reels are great, but I think a Shimano reel hold it's value better over time. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 Hey RM, What do you think about the Gen 3 Revo S reels? Have seen the inside of every Revo in Garcia's US line. It's Personal Pref.... Tight Lines! Quote
JD96 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 The only reason I like Shimano over eceryone else is they aren't gaudy, and they're the diesel truck of fishing reels. Last forever. The 3rd gen Revo STX felt cheap and had too much chrome. Quote

Bill B. Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I own six different Abu's, including a 1600 Morrum jdm that I bought last month, and six different Shimanos, including a Calcutta 50 DC jdm that I also bought last month. Both companies make some outstanding reels and some fair-to-middling reels. I did my homework before I bought, and I wouldn't give up any of them. My to-buy list for the next two Black Friday sales consists of a Shimano Calais DC, an Abu MGXtreme and a Daiwa Steez EX. You can't get much more eclectic than that. Quote
Super User Catt Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 1 name ----> Mörrum What Katsutaka Imae uses to fish. Not even close! Had a Morrum gave it away Quote
Super User tomustang Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 I prefer Jerry over Abu Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 This is DISGUSTING!!!..... I am not used to this topic being this CIVILIZED!!!....lol. Hootie 1 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted September 19, 2013 Super User Posted September 19, 2013 I use Shimanos. Scorpion xts, Metanium mgs and Antares. Love them all. Quote
TrippyJai Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Do you have a specific question rather than which company is better? Maybe like 2 reels in the same price range that you're considering of purchasing? Quote
ColdSVT Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I have shimano , ABU and lews...I only drive ford lolol 1 Quote
